This is so sad and my heart goes out to this child. Articles like this make me realize how glad I am that we enforced the buddy system w/our grands. Yes, even on our Dis cruise. They are never too old for us not to know: what, when, how and why when it concerns our children.

Well now here is a wake up call.

My prayers go out to that poor child.

That is sad.

Last year when we cruised I gave me 16 year old a lot of leeway, but he still had to check-in at predetermined times throughout the day, and after dinner was not allowed to roam the ship, he was to be in Common Grounds or was to call the cabin to tell me if he left there for the sports deck or theatre (unless it was a Common Grounds sponsored activity with counselors supervising).

And he was pushing 6' and muscular and is just shy of a black belt and can certainly defend himself!

I'm glad that at least the 15 year old reported it so that other kids wouldn't become victims as well. :(

guess this answers that other thread, if she should let her 12 & 7 year old's go out alone on the ship... That would be a "NO!!!"

How sad. But it is a city in itself and there are strangers there. You should never put your guard down, even when on vacation.

Like a previous poster stated, at least he alerted authorities.

A cruise ship is a self contained city in many ways. There will be a mix of the population at any given time, and no guarantees of safety on board. Crimes can and do go unreported often, and this is the case on board ships also.

Like in the malls, one should exercise caution and be aware at all times. I always preferred to be safe rather than sorry. Thank you for sharing the article with us. My heart goes out to this boy and his family..

Being in the travel industry you find out about all kinds of assaults that go on aboard cruise ships. This is nothing new. The cruise line with the worst record for assaults and law suits (last time I read up) is what we refer to as"The K-mart of Cruising". I am sure there are plenty on other cruise lines but this cruise line seems to get the most press from travel publications.

That poor boy! Thank God he reported the assault right away. So many young people become ashamed after an incident like this one, and keep the horrible memory a secret. It took courage to come forward. He saved someone else from being attacked.

May God bless him.

Yet another reason that people should not let their children run amuck on the ship....:(
