Points Transfer Questions

After lurking and reading for a while, we have taken the plunge and become DVC members. MS says we should be in the system next week! Here is what we think we know about point transfers. Can someone either confirm and correct me? Collective opinion seems to change over time.

1) Transferred points acquire the home resort and UY of the recipient unless they specifically ask that the points retain original UY and home resort (assumes recipient has only one home resort).

2) All transferred points are elligle for banking through the entire UY of the recipient and are not subject to the usual banking deadlines.

When completing a point transfer (in) earlier this year, MS cautioned me that the points I was purchasing had to have the same UY or earlier than mine in order to use MY 11 month window for booking. I have Oct, so points had to be Oct or earlier in the year. This appears to be a new "wrinkle" in the system.

I was also cautioned that if I was trying to use the home field advantage of the transferred points instead of my own resort, it could take several days to research/conduct a manual pull & that I might not be able to secure a room until the verification was complete.

I don't know if I just happened to get 2 by-the-book CM's, others have reported no such restrictions.

BTW, don't take it personally but, many DVC'ers frown on the practice of points from a different resort taking on the "charactar/availability" of another.

I'm one of them - but am more upset with DVC for allowing that to happen than I am with the member. However, if the member is puposely doing it to expolit the system to gain an advantage over other members, that member and I have different definitons of right and wrong. FWIW, I don't think that the majority of members who do transfers are trying to game the system. But I still wish DVC would update the tracking system to prevent this type of abuse.

For example, how can DVC defend allowing a standard view at BWV to be booked with transferred points from SSR before the 7 month window opens? Under the current system, that can (and probably has) happened.
