Hi. I am looking around in II for hotel exchanges using points in Key West and I see plenty of hotels available for my dates.
Has anyone used points for a hotel stay? I'm wondering if doing so is a poor use of points, cost wise? Any opinions? I just started my research, and I'm going to try to figure out the cost per point vs. a cash reservation. Any thoughts or opinions appreciated.

It's usually a poor use of points, you're better off renting your points and booking cash. It's possible sometimes you might get a deal due to certain circumstances, for example a few years ago a New York hotel was available and the week day cost was very cheap (the week end cost was outrageous, making a whole week a poor value). But unless you can find a diamond in the rough, points are better used for DVC resorts.
Have a look at getaways, instead, you can book for really cheap cash prices if you don't go during high season.
