points to upgrade at S/D

Would really appreciate it if anyone know's about how many starwood points it takes to upgrade to club level. I read one time that it was 750 points. Is that a night or for your whole stay. Sorry to ask but I just have no idea. I know we do not have enough points for a free night since the S/D is listed as a level 4 hotel but was hoping to maybe upgrade at Christmas. Thanks

Thanks you so much Nancy, I'm a Nancy too! That is great news, we should have enough already for 5 nights! Do you know if they ever allow you to use points from a current stay if the room is paid in full. In other words, If our 6 nights are prepaid in full as we always do, when we check in could we go ahead and use some of the new points? We are actually staying 6 nights the week after Christmas and that way I could use the points to upgrade the final night too! Thanks again!

I doubt you can do that, Nancy. The points don't post to your account until a few days after you check-out. If you want some extra points - apply for the Starwood American Express card.

since this thread was close to my question I thought that I would add to it.
Can you upgrade when checking in, or would it be better to call and have the ressie changed?
Also, has anyone used the instant rewards at the Dolphin? If so, what was available?

Haven't used the instant rewards, but I did upgrade when checking in...since I was a Starwood Gold Card member, they didn't even charge me the 750 points per day. THAT was nicccceeeee...

Hi, I know it is 10,000 points to upgrade to a suite. Do you do this way in advance?? I have tried to upgrade at 3 different Starwoods hotels this month but no luck. I have 28,000+ points and am a gold member. Do I make a ressie for a regular room then call to upgrade? Or is it a "if one is available at check-in you can"? TIA for any help.
