Points Taken, But No Reservation.

About a month ago, I tried to make a reservation: selected the date, resort, room type; designated which points to use. I clicked to reserve, but the the system said it could not complete the transaction. However, my points were taken—with no reservation. I was able to see a confirmation in my activity statement, but nothing appeared in my Upcoming Trips.

I called MS, and they referred it to IT, and my points were restored after about 5 hours. I received a call, stating that the reservation was actually not available when I attempted to reserve it. WTH

A few weeks later, I tried making a reservation, and again, the same thing happened, only there was no confirmation number in my activity statement. I called MS, who referrd it to IT. This time, it took a week to restore my points.

Yesterday, guess what— same thing. But this time, MS was able to restore the points while I was on the phone, and they were able to secure the reservation.

Is this happening to anyone else? I really don’t have a good feeling about this.
 
Not happening to me.

What browser are you using? Are you using a phone, tablet or PC to book?

The next time you need to make a reservation, try a different browser & perhaps a different machine to book.

I have had good luck with a windows PC and the CHROME browser. There appear to be more problems reported when using a phone or tablet to book (regardless of operating system). I also clear all the cookies and cache and restart my computer before I book. Don't know if that helps, but I figure it can't hurt to "clear out all the old junk" before I being.

I had a time a couple of years ago where doing a couple of cancellations several weeks apart did cancel the reservations but did not restore the points. It also was off to IT to be fixed. Since that time I have not had the issue happen again.

I did make a reservation a couple of weeks ago that sounded similar to your experience. It timed out during the confirmation process and showed the points taken but did not take me to a confirmation page. However it did show up under My Vacations and on my Dashboard.
 
I normally use my iPad, with Safari. Next time, I will use a desktop (clearing it first), and hopefully that will work. Thank you for the suggestion.
 

I would also suggest using Chrome when booking a reservation, it is the browser that Disney IT suggests using over the other browsers.

Yes, the same exact thing has been happening to me, and is making me mad. MS and IT told me NOT to use Google Chrome. My points have been restored after several days, not hours. A MS supervisor, Stella, assured me (literally said "trust me") the reservation was mine and being held for me on Dec 21. She said she could restore my points, but they are having this issue, and wanted IT to be able to sort it out and find out why it is happening. It "could take a couple days" but a MS rep would call me when it was done. 8 days later and still no call. My points were restored on Dec 26. Today I have been trying to make a reservation, not the one that "was being held for me". I have not seen it again. I can grab the day,get almost done, and then it goes to service unavailable. I haven't been able to get through to MS on phone.

I already paid my 2018 dues. Did so online as soon as we could. I wondered if, in any weird way, that could have anything to do with it, as the dues statements have not been sent out yet. Did you already pay your 2018 dues?

At least someone DID call you back.

If you get the service unavailable at the point where you've just selected the contracts to use points from then use the back button. I've gotten that the last 2 reservations I've made and it's not been uncommon for me to get that in the past. It's always worked the second time once I've gone back.

Thank you. I will try that. But that was not the whole of the problem. I hope to remember that in the future though.

No, I pay my dues monthly.
It’s very annoying, and at one point, I actually had a negative point balance for several days—so much for booking something. I take screenshots of my point balances now, before and after, just to make sure all is (eventually) well.
