Hi, can anyone tell me when the points for a booking are given over? I'm looking at buying DVC, and I'd like to have a stay in May 2017. If I book a stay for May, when would I need to give Disney my points? Thanks.

The points are deducted from your account at the time the reservation is made. If you cancel at least 1 day prior (for DVC Resorts), the points are returned to your account. Usage restrictions apply if you cancel less than 31 days prior to check-in.

Recommend you look at Use Years and your travel patterns to ensure your points availability meet your typical travel plans. Good luck.

With DVC, you can book 11 months ahead at your home resort and 7 months at others. Points that are eligible for booking are determined based on UY of travel, so you can always use banked points from the UY prior to travel, points from UY of travel, and borrow points from UY after travel. When you make the reservation, the points are used to book at that time.

As mentioned, you can cancel a reservation and the points will be returned to your account in the same status they were in the reservation, providing you cancel at least 31 days prior to the trip...so banked points, will still be banked, current UY points will still be current UY points, and borrowed points, will still be borrowed points.

If you cancel less than 31 days, then all points become "holding' points, which means they will expire at the end of the UY they are in and can only be used to book reservations 60 days out from check in.

if you buy a contract with a feb UY (for example), a may 2017 stay would take place in your 2017 UY which goes from feb 1, 2017 to jan 31, 2018. as stated, you could use banked 2016 UY pts (if any) + 2017 UY pts + borrowed 2018 UY pts if needed.

if you buy a contract with an oct UY (for example), a may 2017 stay would take place in your 2016 UY which goes from oct 1, 2016 to sept 30, 2017. as stated, you could use banked 2015 UY pts (if any) + 2016 UY pts + borrowed 2017 UY pts if needed.

since UY has nothing at all to do with when you can book, you can book a may 2017 stay for your home resort in june 2016 in either case. 11 months is 11 months.

the only advantage in UY month is that if you need to cancel, traveling early in your use year gives you more options and less risk of losing points.

Thanks everyone for your valuable input. We'll probably always stay in a studio, so are looking for a home which has the sink outside of the bathroom. So far, I see that BC, GF, Poly, SS, and WL each seem to have the bathroom sink separate from the tub room in their studios. Would you say this is correct?

All studios have a sink outside the bathroom in the kitchenette area.

Poly's bathroom sinks number 2 and are in each of the bathroom areas. BLT used to have the bathroom sink in the kithenette area but they remodeled and placed the bathroom sink in the bathroom area but there is still the kitchenette sink. Kidani studios have the sink in the bathing area but the toilet room is enclosed. VGF has a sink in the shower room area and the toilet/tub/shower are a different room. OKW has the sink in the toilet/tub/shower room and kitchenette with sink just outside the bathroom.

AKV - Jambo, BCV, BWV, VWL, and SSR have the bathroom sink outside of the toilet/tub/shower room.

Getting an HA room either by choice or by assignment will change all of this and everything will usually be in one large room.

Thank you everyone. When you book a studio at AK, is there the option of choosing between Jambo and Kidani?

Yes, you can choose at the time of booking.

Just a word of warning, if you were to make an offer for a resale contract today, you probably won't get your points until the end of September at best. Probably still be OK if you're looking at AKV though.

If you buy direct you get points right away.

OKW & HHI studios have self contained bathrooms where the sink is in the bathroom with the tub/shower & toilet. (One reason we're not fans of OKW.) I have only been to Vero once & we were in an OV Inn room - I think that was also self contained and not a split bath. But other than OKW all of the resorts have a split bath of some sort except Poly which has 2 bathrooms.
