I made a reservation for a one bedroom value at AKL for my cousin with check in yesterday. I looked in my account and saw the reservation was cancelled yesterday and the points returned. Apparently the value room was unavailable, so they put her in a one bedroom standard. I'm glad to have my points back but they put them in holding. Might MS fix this?

It should be fine. I had the same thing happen at BWV last week and had a fit about the points in holding. (We were upgraded from a studio to one bedroom). I called MS and they explained that it was a manual adjustment, and the resort sends a memo to MS for the correction. All was well. Phew. I would just keep an eye on your points. Mine were fine the following day.

Maybe. Did they use other points to pay for the standard view? If yes, then absolutely CALL! It's not unusual for the resort staff to "mess up" when dealing with DVC points. They just are not well trained enough to understand the consequences of some of the transactions they "know" how to do.

Technically, the standard view is an upgrade. I'd still call and ask MS what happened and why you have holding points. It's possible that the resort intended to return the points to you (for the inconvenience of the last minute reassignment). MS may decide to make those holding points into current use year points for you (so the standard view could turn out to be free).

Good luck!

Will they apply the holding points towards the new reservation (upgrade) or did you just have all of your points refunded?

In my account, I only see that the reservation was cancelled. And my available points has increased by that amount.

Can't be sure, but it sounds like that vacation might turn out to be free. My guess is that you will get your points back (and not in holding) - wait a day or two as MdmMim suggests and see what happens. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. :)

The front desk did the cancelation and they don't know how to deal with DVC points. MS will fix the held points but they may also adjust your account to correct the points that should be used. You might need to get a lead involved to fix your account.

We actually had three BWV reservations upgraded since Jan 4, I guess due to construction. Two instances of standard studios to pool/garden view one bedrooms, and another standard studio to pool/garden view studio. I freaked out each time, checking my points. In the end, all was fine. Nothing in holding and only the originally reserved points were used.

I have two more guests coming today. I'll be watching my points again.

If they did not deduct other points I would just wait to call. It's unlikely they will not be using the points to "pay" for the other room. The CM who did it may just not have been aware on how to handle it at that time or there may be some sort of lag in the system.

This has happened before but it's been a while since I recall any such reports. Since the front desk doesn't have direct access to your account, my understanding is the canceled points will go into holding though often the new reservation has pulled from existing points. MS should fix it and I'm guessing they'll take the holding account points in doing so and they'll get the standard 1 BR for the cost of the value. Depending on the group that might or might not be an upgrade. If they were hoping for the luck of a view out of value and they don't need the extra space, it might be a downgrade. I'd let the situation be your guide as to whether to ultimately ask for additional compensation once they rectify the points issue or look at it as a minor upgrade. If it were me, I'd either call or email about it. But one could take a wait and see attitude and hope the holding account points was an added bonus.

I found MS to be pretty generous this year when it came to putting points back in the correct year. I was trying to book a split stay for my son's birthday week. But it's during a marathon week, so availability was scarce. I had reserved the first several days at AKL just before the 7 month mark & then tried to book the Poly for the last few days right at 7 months. There was a problem with the resort availability tool though. Even though the Poly showed availability, there actually wasn't any. The only thing left with availability at that point was SSR & OKW, but my son was not interested in either of those. MS very nicely said they would put points I'd already borrowed back in the correct use year, since I'd borrowed them based on incorrect information. I didn't even have to ask. I'm sure they'll take care of your situation too!
