Points Questions?

I am looking into taking a little trip next year (06) Which would use most of my 05-06 points. Then we are thinking about a trip in 07 in April. My use is March. So if I make the ressie 11 months out, I will use some of 06 points and then have to borrow points from 07. I will not have access to my 08 points until March of 07 correct? Let me know if this is right. I hope this makes sense.

For an April stay in '07, you would use '07 points and any banked from '06.

'05 points - March 1, 2005 through Feb 28, 2006
'06 points - March 1, 2006 through Feb 28, 2007
'07 points - March 1, 2007 through Feb 28, 2008

You can bank any '05 points you won't need into '06 by August 28, and I assume you know the 50% and 25% banking deadlines.

On March 1, 2006, you would have any banked points, your unborrowed '06 points, and the availability of borrowing 100% of your '07 points.

Actually, Jim, she doesn't need to borrow '07 points for an April '07 trip since she will already be in that use year.

Just a reminder to the OP that the time at which you make a reservation for a DVC resort (11 months/7 months/ 30 days) has no bearing upon your ability to borrow from the next UY ('08 for a trip in your '07 UY).

That said, once you borrow, you cannot undo it. You must use those points during the UY into which they were borrowed: '07. That means that if you later cancel your April '07 trip, you will need to find a use for any of the borrowed points by the last day of Feb '08, which is the end of your '07 UY.

So even if you CAN borrow points at 11 months out, you have to decide whether your plans are firm enough that you want to commit to use them during that UY. Being in a perpetual state of borrowing myself, I always have to remind myself that there's no do-over when you borrow.

Right, I knew that. I just gave her the status for 3/1/2006, figuring she could carry it forward and get the right answer.
