Does anyone know how many points needed for Grand Floridian in Sept? I need to stay at this hotel for wedding? I know I can stay at Nay Towers but my friends want the ***** Grand Floridian!:confused3

I didn't check for a 2011 point chart. The 2010 point chart shows 45-80 points per night Sunday - Thurs; 68-120 points per night Fri - Sat.

I would check with CRO when the date gets closer. They frequently have 40% off at the deluxes.

I don't feel that it is cost effective to use points for the Grand Floridian. It's a beautiful resort, and I would love to stay there at some point, but I would never be able to justify the number of points required per night.

So are you booking this for your friends or for yourself? If it's for yourself, I'd just book at a DVC resort. If you are booking for them....I'd say they are on their own for the Grand Floridian.

I'm also one who does not think it is anywhere near as nice as it's cost would indicate.

Not only all of the above but it will cost an additional $95 transfer fee!

Does anyone know how many points it would cost to stay in a Main Building room at the Grand Floridian. In the DVC magazine with all of the point charts, it only lists a standard view, lagoon view, or Magic Kingdom View. I'm not sure if its referring to the main or outer builidings, because I would really prefer to stay in the main building. I know the main building rooms are more, since i stayed there in 2007. Anybody know how many points it is?? I'm going in March from the 9th to the 16th.

MB70 - I don't have an answer to your question but wanted to say, "WELCOME!" and "Wow -- great job on finding a relevant thread!" You've made a great start! :)

When DVC adds to an existing resort, that resort is pulled from the collection. I don't know if that only happens after DVC opens at the location or after it is announced.

Main building is all concierge, so if there is a listing for concierge, check there.

OP, you menitoned you would just stay at BLT, why not do that anyway?
At the end of the night, when all said and done, or the morning when you all must meet, why can't you just take a monorail ride over to GF?
Does the bride/groom really care where you end up sleeping at night?
I own DVC, and always wanted to stay in the Poly but even though we have enough points to do so, I cannot spend the points for just a hotel room that uses much more points than my DVC.
Let us know what you end up doing.

2012 - for your dates
Sun through Thur 106 per night.
Fri and Sat 122 per night.
That is standard view, club level so it might only be Sugarloaf, too.

Sometimes there are Annual Pass discounts. I stayed at the Poly in 2010 on a good one. It was cheaper than the points reservation I was going to use If I had paid $10.00 pp. I just saved my points. Might be worth the investment.

I know it's always more fun to stay where everyone else is staying during a wedding, but if you can get BLT, I don't think it's that much trouble to just hop the monorail back and forth. The value you will lose on your points IMHO is just not worth it, plus the $95 fee. If you have enough points, maybe you could book a reservation for friends to stay at the BLT and have them pay you for it. It would be cheaper for both of you that way.

What is sugarloaf? I am thinking of booking using points that will expire and we can't squeeze in an additional trip.

That is one part of the GF club level accommodations. There is Sugarloaf and the other is called ??someone help me?? Royal something I think. One is in the main building and one is in a separate building, I'm not sure which.

I'm sure club level at GF using points is a ridiculous amount + the $95 fee. And of course that option won't be available anymore once they declare DVC at the GF, but it doesn't sound like that would impact you.

I just checked - club level @ the GF standard view (all that you can book per the points charts) ranges from 55 points per night to 135 points per night, depending on what season you are in.

Sugarloaf is the lesser quality club level in the separate building outside the older pool. It's comfortable and the service is pleasant. We stayed there once several years ago on a "Buy 4 get 3 Nights free" deal.
