Looks like I have to cancel a reservation for June 10th - I have a Sept use year - I booked a week at BCV for 266 points. Out of that number, i used all of my 160 points, I borrowed 68 from next year and I bought 38 from another member and had them transferred in. If I cancel the reservation what will happen to all my points, used, borrowed, bought, :confused3 and what can I bank?

You can bank your original 160 from your current use year. The banked points must be used before the end of your use year or be lost. I'm not real sure about the transfered points, but I think that holds true for them as well. Someone else will have the transferred points info. I would think you could rent out a ressie using those borrowed and transferred points.

With a September UY, you are past your 100% banking deadline. You have until May 31st to bank up to 50% of your points, however. So you can bank up to 80 of your current use year points if you do so by May 31st.

The 68 borrowed points will expire if not used by Aug 31 of this year.

The 38 transferred points would probably be bankable but since you can only bank 80 points total between now and May 31st and will use up that amount with your own points, you won't be able to bank these.

Bottom line, of the 266 points, you can bank 80. The rest will expire at the end of your use year (Aug 31st). So unless you can book another trip for that time period, you should probably be looking to rent out those points. Better still, you might want to try to rent the existing reservation. If you decide to try this, do so soon. Once you are within 30 days of check-in, any points freed up by changing/canceling this reservation will go into holding and you won't be able to bank any of the points and any points in holding will expire at the end of your use year.

Sorry you have to cancel.

I agree with LisaS about trying to rent the existing reservation.

If it were me, I'd cancel one of the weekend nights and bank those points. Might be easiest to cancel whichever weekend night (Friday or Saturday) that was booked with current year points. Then I'd try to rent the remaining 6 nights.

You have over a month until June 10 and since BCV is popular during the summertime, you may be able to rent fairly easily. If you end up cancelling after May 9, the points will go into the holding account. That means you'd have to make a reservation for a stay that is less than 60 days from the date you call for the reservation. If it were me, I'd want full payment right away sicne the arrival date is coming up so quickly.

Another option is to use the points yourself for something in one of the Collections that is closer to home - maybe a long weekend. Might be easier than renting and it is sure beter than losing the points. Keep in mind that for most of the non-DVC options, you need to make the reservation before July 1. (60 day rules applies). You can stay in July and August at a non-DVC option, but you can't make the ressies during the last 60 days of your use year if your stay will also occur during the last 60 days of the use year).

Good luck!

Good luck on your decision, I would hate to lose points.

I think MS will help you reallocate points within the reservation so that you free-up current use year points for banking, if you choose to cancel a weekend night. MS has always been most accommodating in this regard when I have had to cancel a ressie.
