I have a points question-

I am getting married at Disney World in 2009 and want to use a lot of my points to make reservations for my family members and want to know if my math is correct on how many points I will have.

Oct 2007- 350 Points -- Bank those into 2008 UY and will still be able to use these points in 2009

Oct 2008- 350 Points -- no need to bank these points, will be getting married prior to Oct 2009

Oct 2009-- 350 Points

Oct 2010-- 350 points

So if I bank my 2007 points and if I can borrow from my 2009 & 2010 UY I should have a total of 1400 points to use for my 2009 wedding. Is that correct? My Oct 2007 points can be used until Sept 2009 and I can borrow my 2009 & 2010 points? I just want to make sure this is all correct before I start to tell my family I will be providing their hotel stay.

Thanks for your help :)

Just FYI...

You can't borrow points beyond your NEXT use year, nor can you bank more than one use year's points.

Unfortunately I do not believe so......

2007 points - 350 Banked
2008 points - 350 banked from 07 and 350 current from Oct 08UY - 700
2009 points - If married prior to your UY you would have to borrow from the 09 points.....giving you a total of 1050 points to book with

If you need the points for your reservation between Jan 1, 09 and Sept 30, 09, you could use:

Your banked 2007 points (Good from Oct 1, 08 to Sep 30, 09) = 350
Your current 2008 points (Good from Oct 1, 08 to Sep 30, 09) = 350
Your borrowed 2009 points (Good from Oct 1, 08 to Sep 30, 09) = 350
Total = 1050

If you need the points for your reservation between Oct 1, 09 and Dec 31, 09, you could use:

Your banked 2008 points(Good from Oct 1, 09 to Sep 30, 10) = 350
Your current 2009 points (Good from Oct 1, 09 to Sep 30, 10) = 350
Your borrowed 2010 points. (Good from Oct 1, 09 to Sep 30, 10) = 350
Total = 1050

Actually, I believe you CAN borrow from up to two years ahead. So I think the original poster is correct (assuming his wedding is before October).

And even if you can't bank/borrow your own points to time it right, you can usually rent out your points from years you don't use them, and use the cash from that transaction to rent other points for the year you do want to use them.

The only way to borrow two years ahead is for your trip to start in one use year and end in another. And you would have to make two reservations.

Ah, thanks for clearing up my confusion. I was on the dvcmember site and it indicated I could borrow year 2010 points, but on reading the fine print it seems I could only use those for a vacation in my next use year.

So yes, in order for the original poster to use 4 different use years worth of points they'd need to span their use year boundary, and use 2007+2008+2009 points for the before-October portion of the reservation and 2008+2009+2010 points for the after-October portion.

Or, they could get another member to transfer them the appropriate points this use year, and pay them back another year. :)
