I have just been looking into DVC for a few months now. It was my understanding that the points couldn't go up at a resort without them going down at another time or different type of room at the same resort. When I was just on the Timeshare store comparing BLT 2012 points to 2013 it seems that they have just increased as I don't see a time or type of room that has decreased. Is this common that the points to rent keep going up or are they fairly stable? Just curious as I am trying to figure out a strategy for the points that we need while still leaving a sizable buffer.

It's because some rooms were shifted from MK view to Standard view. MK view will now start on 5 instead of 3.

Effective January 1, 2013, DVC announced it is reclassifying 10 BLT vacation homes from the Theme Park View category to the Standard View category. Thus, it will require less points to book these 10 vacation homes in 2013 compared to 2012. Since the total number of points to book the entire BLT resort has to remain constant, DVC had to make some incremental increases in the point costs elsewhere on the point chart.

Disney has made several points adjustments during the last 3 years. Sometime beneficial to owners, sometimes not. They even started selling one time use points now that some owners come up short.

Does this mean that if you're lucky with your Standard view booking at BLT, you could end up with a better Standard view room (one of those reclassified 10) than a preferred view one? ;)

I guess it depends on what you mean by better. Those rooms will offer a partial view of the MK for SV points as I believe they are the rooms on the front of the building on floors 3 and 4 that people complained about--rightfully so.

So, for someone who wants to be able to see the top of the castle from their balcony, it will give more rooms as an option.

Even now, there are some LV rooms that offer a partial MK view which is really nice. Its one of the reasons why I doubt we will ever pay extra points for Theme Park view when we have a chance to see the MK (and the parking lot...lol) for less!!!

It means beginning for trips in 2013, the standard views will include not just the second floor in the front of the building over the entrance area but also the third and fourth floors which are currently classified as the much higher point cost Theme Pak view. Whether one considers those 3rd and 4th floor rooms to be a "better" standard view when the change goes into effect is a matter of opinion. They are being changed because as higher point cost Theme Park view they are close to being criminal violations the view is so lousy (you see mainly the parkiong lot) and should never have been anything other than standard view to begin with.

All of the resorts we have considered booking have the same point costs in 2013 they had in the 2011-2012 planner.
We are not interested in BLT so did not look at their chart, but I had thought all poiints were the same until you noticed this.
I would not let it stop you from buying DVC.
