Points in hold question?

I am looking to transfer points from another member to complete a family vacation in July. The person who has points for me to transfer into my account has the number of points needed but in a "holding" account. What exactly does this mean and how does it affect when the reservation can be made? We are new to this so any veteran answers would be appreciated.

Holding points expire at the end of the use year. They cannot be banked.

They can only be used to make a reservation for a stay that is 60 days or less from the date you call to make the reservation. Since availability is often quite limited 60 days prior, holding points can be very tough to use.

Points go into holding if you cancel a reservation 30 days or less befor arrival.

AFAIK, holding points can be transferred, but they retain the holding status.
