Points if a renter doesn’t show.

David’s also has the renter’s money. Do you think that they will fully refund all money to the renter if the OP were to return it? That would be inconsistent with how they have operated from the beginning.

It sounds as if the renter, for whatever reason, just never showed up. Maybe they contacted David’s at the last minute and were told that the resorts are open, there are no refunds. You don’t know what happened on that end. The OP never heard anything about the renter not traveling. They upheld their end of the agreement. They should be paid. They shouldn’t have to accept returned points as compensation for an unused reservation when they cannot use those points. And heaven forbid if this is a mistake on DVC’s part and they claw back those points after the OP refunds or re-rents.
That last sentence is my biggest fear, even if I moved to new dates for the renter, is what it DVC then takes from my 2020 points that I banked for our trip next year. It’s supposed to be our big happy trip with our child and my parents to enjoy. We were scheduled to land at MCO right when Dorian was gonna hit, and I was worried sick trying to weigh what to do for days before we finally had to cancel everything. We ended up going to DLR but the relief from stress I had not having to worry about that anymore was something I couldn’t put value on.

Except that reservation shows as complete and MS has told you it did not relate to that.
True. I guess that’s where I’m such a novice at all this. We bought late 2018. And we’re going to use points 2019 but plans changed with Dorian. So then we rented out our points for this year, so we’ve actually not been able to stay anywhere on our points, and this is first experience renting out as well so it’s all uncharted waters for me. On it the points should be there or not.

So if David has the renters money, whose money does OP have?

I also don’t see where she was “forced” to take returned points. She was given those points back.

And MS has stated the points don't relate to that reservation. I would not rush to tell OP to refund something that that according to MS is not related.

Without knowing the point status when you bought, what was rented etc I'm not certain what to say. DVC isn't particularly in the habit of giving points out without a reason. :) AND they have made mistakes now and then which they eventually clear up which I understand is the big concern for you if you were to move forward with a plan to use them. It sounds like in the call MS felt it was correct though?

But DVC put them back without her knowledge, So, in that respect, they made the decision and not her,

They told her it had nothing to do with that rental. Maybe, when reviewing account, they made some adjustment for her in terms of which points were used...maybe it’s a mistake,

DVC is not going to claw them back if they feel she is entitled to them. So, the best to do is just leave things as is and go from there, OP says they are newer members so it is possible they had more points then they realized they had.

If the broker did not contact her and paid, they obviously believe the renter checked in as well, So, the deal is over at this point.

My assumption is they were meaning the extra $3.50(?) per point that David gets for the rental on top of the 14.50 I got for the rental.

as to the points that’s where I guess I’m stumped on policy. Is if the points should even be there, whether they showed or not. If it’s the policy of DVC to not return points even if someone doesn’t show, then despite the MS person telling me it’s not that, I think it might be a glitch as it’s for the same exact points as thag reservation, and I didn’t have any other points banked or borrowed. My two reservations I made through David’s was for the exact amount of the 200 points I get.

They seemed kinda vague on it. And she had to get a lot of help when she would ask me questions. When I bought there were no 2018 points at all. And the 2019 points were banked to this year when we couldn’t use them for our trip last September. So that much I know it was flat 200 points that I rented through David’s. One for 67 points in July. And the other for 123 points in August, and the exact same amount that was returned. I think I’ll just leave them as is to expire, in case they do take back, or if I can move for them and the points should actually be there, then get confirmation again from a fast member lol.

DVC does not return for no shows but I have read one report where an owner was given them when they canceled the day off In early July.

I would not worry and let them be there for a little while and see what happens, I would also go back over the entire activity statement from when you bought because it will show status along the way when you went to 0.

If you are that worried, email MS and ask for them to review your account again to ensure this is not an error,,,

ETA: What is your UY? If these were banked 2019 points, is it possible they pulled current UY by mistake and these are your 2020 points? Because if you didn’t use 2020 points, those should be there too.

Thanks for more info. And yes we are newer, but on the points I’m at least certain that it’s the banked points from 2019 and I have until March 31 to use them per cast member. I tried to expand a little more in my above post. It really just feels like a glitch in the system unless their policy for no shows in COVID era and giving the points back and I missed it lol.

thank you. I have gone over that to check activity and points as well. But definitely will leave them there for a bit and get double checked from MS. Appreciate all the help from everyone!

I would not touch them, this could be a hotel side change. I have seen this happen to my points. I have a reserved room, got there and there was a room issue, I got upgraded (hotel said it would cost me the same in points) and the points got put back into my account a day later. A week or so later the same amount of points for my original room was taken back out to be used for the upgrade and the upgrade remaining came from who knows where, but it didn't come from my points.

That was my other thought - that the resort did something when the renter checked in and that can create all kinds of different changes to an owners account. I think since OP called in and were received the information they did I'd just let it sit and simmer for 2-4 weeks. Modifications made by the resort typically get cleared up within that time so if they are still there after that time they are probably safe to use. Otherwise if @Stinkomann20x6 wants a better answer then email MS for somebody to investigate further.

Good to know on the time frame. Thanks for the advice and help! :)

I would not touch them, much less refund or re-rent them. As an owner who has had member services mess up my points on multiple occasions, this could be an error. Most likely an error. Let it all shake out.
