Do you need to have points when you are making the reservation or just by the time the date comes that you arrive?

Say you had 100 points currently and every June they get replenished, didnt want to borrow points from the following year, but wanted to book in June of next year now for 120 points. Can you do this without borrowing?

Member services sees your future use years. Points must be available when you book, for the time of the stay. For instance, say you want to stay June 3 to 15, 2010. You can call now for the reservation, and points have to be available to cover the reservation IN the 2010 use year, using either banked 2009 points, 2010 points or borrowed 2011 points.

the rule to remember is that UY has nothing to do with booking your reservation. you can call 11 months in advance for your home resort.

reservations for june 2010 would be in your 2010 use year. (it's not always obvious - a reservation for may 2010 would be at the end of your 2009 UY).

your 2009 UY pts are good from june 1, 2009 - may 31, 2010 (unless they are banked into 2010.)
your 2011 UY pts are good from june 1, 2011 - may 31, 2012 (unless they are borrowed into 2010 or banked into 2012.)

when you call 11 months or so ahead, you may use any of your current UY pts (and they are "current" pts even if you call in july 2009 to book the reservation) to book june 2010, OR you can bank your 2009 pts into your 2010 UY OR borrow your 2011 pts into your 2010 UY to book that stay in june 2010.

I don't know if this will help, but when I am trying to figure out what I need to "pay" for a trip, the first thing I do is figure out what UY my trip will happen.

Once that is determined, then I know I can pay for a trip with "banked" points from the previous UY, current UY points, and borrowed points from the next UY. For example, I also have a June UY. I am traveling in August 2010. Since that is part of my June 2010 UY, I know I can pay for it with "banked" 2009 points, 2010 points, and borrowed 2011 points.

When you call MS, they pretty much do the same thing--look at your time of travel and then look at the points that will be available for that trip.

I think I understand but let me put it like this....

If I am new to DVC have no points due to me until June 1 2010 and want to make a reservation for July 1st 2010, I can do it 11 months in advance because even though I don't have any right now, the system reads it as the time I am making reservations for I will have them and be down there?

Bingo!

They way I like to look at is this: You can always call to reserve 11 months at home resort. In determining which points you use wipe from your mind the date you call to make the ressie, think only about the date you will actually be at WDW. Whatever use year that date is in will be your "current use year" for that trip and you can use the points from that "current use year" for the trip. You can also use points you bank from the "previous use year" (which may well be the one you happen to be in on the actual date you call to reserve) and you can borrow points from the "subsequent use year" which is the one that comes after the use year in which your trip will actually occur.

I think you are getting confused with when your points are "deposited". They don't "deposit" when your use year starts, they are already there. If you look at your account on the DVC website, you should see your current use year and the 3 following. I have an April use year. My account shows April 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012. So my 2012 use year points are already in my account and have been since April. Any use years I could possibly need are there for use based on the use year of the date of stay. You never have to wait for points to "deposit".
