Points for DL Calif.

Sheesh! I haven't been on this site for about 18 months (family medical issues - first me - had a disc removed from neck - then DH - diverticulitis w/surgery) and DIS seems to double in size every time I stay away for more than 6 months! Anyway - has anyone used points to stay at a DL Resort? Is this a wise use of points - or should I bank them and do the DL trip cash? I used about two years' worth of points to do the Western Caribbean Cruise on the Magic this past February - and I had booked that about a year out, so I am WAY out of "points-booking" practice! BTW - saw TONS of DIS-ers on that cruise - there had to have been some kind of a group-thing - it was around 01/30/04 thru 02/07/04 and the ship was crawling with 'em! (great cruise - 1st time ever cruising - loved it - and never could have afforded it with cash!)

I have heard that 2005 points for DL hotels has gone up INCREDIBLY...and, I thought they were SKY HIGH before!!! I mean...DL charges $335 for a room, and the same room is 52 or 65 points depending on season!! That's a LOT of points!!! Sun-Thurs, the 2004 rates weren't too bad, but Fri & Sat....forget it!!!

I think DL points may be INSANE next year due partly to DL's 50th bday!! I think DL thinks they can charge a premium for the hotels and get it...so, we have to pay that premium as well. I have actually heard that the hotels are already full for a substanitial part of the summer (but, I have not personally verified that).

If I REALLY wanted to go, I would either buy an AP (they are not that expensive for DL compared to ticket prices at WDW), or I would rent out part of my points (or...like you said...just bank them) to pay for the rooms in cash.

I, personally think DL is NO bargain for DVC points. My DH and I "say" we are going to use them for a DL hotel sometime....but, we just cannot bring ourselves to do it!!!
