I'm wondering how the DVC points system works, is it by "day" or by "night?"

For instance:

If we arrive and check in on a Sunday, and check out the following Sunday, are we charged for (2) Sundays, or, are we just charged the weekly amount for 7 nights?

You are charged points per night. Therefore you would be charged for the 7 nights.

When you make your reservation, they will be very clear about what day you are checking out, so you aren't booking an extra night. I've done it myself, where I said I need a room 1/1-1/6, thinking those were the nights I needed, but check out is 1/7. The folks on the phone always clarify and make sure the dates are correct for what you need. (They must be used to confused people like me!!!)

Also, if you sign up for the dining plan, you can use the meals on the day you check out, so it's like an extra day if you are in the area...

there's not actually a weekly amount - the charge is per night. (the weekly amount just adds up the 7 nights - if you cross seasons, you pay the per night amount.)

DVC does have a fairly "hard" check out time at 11am, though. if you want to stay in the villa longer than that due to a late flight out or something, it might be better to book the extra night on the end of your trip. just FYI.

Points are per night. Your key to the world card is good until midnight on your checkout day for charging and dining plan use.

Points per night, just like any hotel reservation you make.... checkout day is not counted.
