When you buy into
DVC, you don't buy acess to a specific size timeshare for specific week like in some timeshares. For example, someone I know owns the last 2 weeks in February in a 2 bedroom unit in Mexico. If she can't go then, she loses her time for that year. Your purchase is represented by points. It's much more flexible because you can use your points in various ways to reserve what you want, when you want. My friend with the timeshare in Mexico often can't go during her week, or maybe she doesn't need as big of a room. She's stuck because that's what she purchased. With my DVC points, I can make a reservation for any time period I want. If we have lots of people coming with us, we may choose to use more of our points and reserve a 2 bedroom unit. If it's only DH and I, we might chose a one bedroom (and use less less points than a 2 bedroom) or we may even reserve a studio and use less points.
