I haven't been to Disney in 10 years, but with 2 small children, I'm thinking joining DVC might be a great deal for us. I have been looking into buying from Disney at Saratoga Springs. Although more expensive than resale, we're hoping to use the points for a vacation in November and I understand its much quicker.

Right now we can afford the minimum points (150), but I'd anticpate maybe adding on in the future. My question is how does it work for priority reservations if you buy resale at another resort. If I want to make a reservation at SS springs 11 months in advance, could I use both my SS and other Disney points towards that stay? If I'm wihtin 7 months could I combine the points (say for a grand villa)

Thanks for any help.:earsgirl:

Only your SSR points could be used for SSR at 11 months out, the others would have to wait for the 7 month mark. You can combine them at 7 months out.

Welcome to the Dis-Boards.

You can't combine the two resorts points to make a reservation at 11 months but at 7 months you can combine any and all points to make any reservation you want.

A lot of folks make a reservation at their hoime resort at 11 months. Then at 7 months they call and cancel the old reservation then make a new reservation. If nothing they want is available, many go on a wait list.

You could also buy 150 poins at SSR and add on at another resort either by resale or potentially from DVC. I don't think the quick reservation is enough reason in and by itself to drive your decision. Unless you're very comfortable with SSR in general, make a cash reservation and look for a resale. You still might be able to use the resale for November and cancel the cash. Good luck.

Welcome to the DIS! You are going to be very surprised at all that has changed at the World in ten years.

Buying resale is generally less expensive, but you are likely to have to pay closing costs that are the greater of $450 or $2.00 per point. You will also need to arrange you own financing if you do not have the cash available. And Disney has a ROFR (Right of first refusal) on all resales.

Buying from Disney entails no closing costs and they will finance a portion of the transaction. While faster, I agree with Dean that is not compelling enough to give Disney the edge.

Call and get the video. Read these boards and the DVC information available on this and other sites. A general internet search will help you or post a request and we can provide links. Also go to the DVC site and the WDW sites.

If 50 year contract is important to you then SSR is the choice. Otherwise buy where you would like to stay the most.

Many of us have add-on after the first purchase -- a few of us before we even took our first trip home.

Good luck.
