Point Values DVC vs. outside of DVC "network"

Can anyone give me a rule of thumb when trying to compare the value of a stay at a DVC resort vs. Concierge Collection, World Passport, Adventurer, Interval International, etc. so you can tell you are getting a good deal?

For example, looking at the Concierge Collection, I see that a Full Ocean View room at Hotel Del Coronado, value season, is 61 pts per night Sun-Thu, and 70 points Fri-Sat. How would I go about assessing if that is a good value or not a good use of my DVC points?

Even figuring the least expensive cost to you of your points, you are looking at about $6 per point. That would be purchase per point/number of years you have to use the contract at time of purchasse, plus current dues per point. Then add the $95 fee required.

Concierge Collection is likely the worst use of points in the non-DVC options. Interval International among the best use, outside of DVC.

It's not.

Some value their DVC points at what they could theoretically personally sell a DVC reservation for. This is $10 to $12 per point currently. That puts your hotel cost at around $610 per night at least.

Probably a more realistic measurement is how much DVC use you are giving up by trading out those points. A DVC studio is the best comparison to a hotel room and you are probably looking at 4 or 5 nights in a DVC studio for that number of points (depending on resort and season).

most people compare it to rental value. if you rent 61 pts for $10 per point (or whatever), would that be enough to get you the same room for a weeknight for cash (including taxes) - allowing for the extra trouble that renting would take...?
