Sorry if this is out there already, but I searched and did not find anything current.

I saw and entry from 2004 that stated:

MS's systems have a hard time tracking the Home Resort attribute. This means that if you own OKW, and had someone transfer BCV points to you, the points would take on your Home Resort and "become" OKW points. This glitch is supposedly being fixed "soon", but it has been years and still the glitch exists. It can work for you or against you depending on where you want the 11mo booking window.

Is this "fixed" now? I am looking to rent points and it would be easier to not worry about matching my home resort with the rental pool that is available.

Thanks,
Erick

2004 was a long time ago. Supposedly, the glitch has been fixed.

More importantly, DVC has now limited transfers to one transfer (either in or out) per account per year. That should stop the abuses by people who were having points transferred into their accounts for rental purposes.

If you need to use the points for a reservation at 11 months, it would be best to make sure they are from the resort you want to reserve. If you are using them for reservations within 7 months, then the transfer can be from any resort.

Thanks, that is waht I thought. Now part 2. Does anyone know if borrowed points can be transfered? I found someone with the same home resort, but some of their points were borrowed.

Thanks,
Erick

Nope - banked or borrowed points cannot be transferred. Transferred points may be banked (but not borrowed).

From what I'm hearing the glitch is still present though it may be better than it was.

It's still alive and well. We had transfered in SSR points from another member. Due to a schedule change we had to change our dates. MS canceled our reservation and the SSR points became BCV points where we have a contract. I asked twice if the Adviser was sure and she said that the system was very clear. They are BCV points. Not to argue the point we booked at BCV. :woohoo:

I know, I was trying to be diplomatic as there are some here who are convinced that it's been fixed. But it does apparently vary from CM to CM at MS.

 Dean The Diplomat.

Has a nice ring to it. Don't you agree? ;)

I transfered points from someone and they do not match my home resort. I have not had any success making a resservation in the 11 month window. They keep telling me the system will not allow it because of the home resort on the transfered points.

Any suggestions?

You should still be able to book at the home resort of the transferred points in the 11 month window. I just recently had points transferred in that were a different home resort and I was able to book at the home resort on the transferred points in the 11 month window. However I couldn't book at my own home resort with those points. If you are hoping those points will somehow morph into your own home resort, well.....I'm not sure what to tell you. :confused3 :rolleyes1

So you own at resort A and transferred in points from resort B. Which resort are you trying to book, and which points are you trying to use?

Don't want to break any board rules. Are we allowed to tell people how to morph points?

Yes, I own at resort A, transfered in points from B+C, and want to make reservation for 3 studios at Resort A.

I called MS before the transfer and a guy told me that The points would retain their use year but would not show their home resort. He even said they would transfer in as "generic points". This is why I went forward with the transfer instead of waiting for a transfer opportunity with the same home resort.

Once I got the points, I called and they said I could not use the points to book in the 11 month window at resort A with these transferred points.

I understand the rules and agree with them completely. I bought resale at Resort A even though the expiration date is 10 years sooner than SSR. I just wish I was told the right policy by the MS CM before I transferred points. I am sure I could have found someone with points from Resort A if I had waited.

Just thought I would contribute my experience…

I own at BWV and HH. I had 10 HH points that I transferred to BWV. I was making my reservation at 11 months using my BWV points and once those were all used, the CM told me I would have to wait until 7 months to make the reservation for the last day since the remaining 10 points were from HH. I definitely think it depends on the CM.

What happened to you (not being able to use the transferred points at the 11-month window) is consistent with the official policy. Transferred points are supposed to retain their home resort and Use Year.
