I have 40 Aug UY SSR points that I will not use before 7/31/09 and will need to bank by March. The complication is . . .

I have a trip planned with my Girl Scout troop in 8/09 and we are staying at SSR. I don't want to use my personal points for the trip, I want the troop to pay for a transfer (or to rent if we can't get a transfer). Should I bank my points before looking to buy a transfer? I'm pretty new and this will be my first time banking, and my first time looking to get a transfer. I assume the transfered points keep their UY and cannot be banked? I just want to do it right so as to not mess up my own points.

Hopefully someone with understand what I'm asking and help!
Thanks.

transferred pts keep their home resort status and also, i believe, their UY. but transferred pts can be banked. (but banked pts cannot be transferred.)

What an awesome GS leader :thumbsup2 !!!

If you plan to travel in August and get either the transfer or rental arranged between now and before Jan xx 2009 (PRIOR to 7 months before the check-in date you want in August) then you would be still be within the priority booking window for whatever Home Resort these points are attached to. You might want to take advantage of that priority booking option while it's still available and not wait until 7 months or less booking window because then you will be competeing against all DVC owners for August 2009 dates.

I would just add that, imo you should also get either the transfer or rental done before your 3/31/09 banking deadline for your points because once you bank those 40 points you will not be able to "un-bank" them back into 2008 Use Year if needed like just in case for some reason this trip had to be rescheduled and done before August (ie July) you could find that you end up needing your 40 points if it turned out trip needed to happen prior to August.

A transfer of points for this trip is probably best way to do it because then you will control your reservation from start to finish & deal directly with MS to set up reservation, make requests, etc. etc. A rental would mean a member would have to make the reservation, request & handle all calls with MS right up until check-in time because even though you are a dvc member you would not be able to access a rental reservation made in your name by another member prior to check-in so a points transfer is probably a better scenario. ( especially for purposes of documenting & communicating about this trip with GSUSA & the parents - know GS well as leader & coleader of both DDs troops for more years than I like to admit :goodvibes .

If arranging a transfer just be sure to GET ENOUGH POINTS to cover the entire reservation for whatever size villa/number of nights you need because members are only allowed ONE TRANSFER PER Use Year - it would be best to figure all possible room points scenarios and see what would be the max number of points you'd need to get your reservation done & seek a transfer for that amount - better to have points leftover than to come up short and you can always just bank extra transferred points that you didn't need to use; ie let's say you wanted 2 studio villas but when you call MS only 1 studio is available & a 1 bedroom villa - this then would require that you have more points available to make the reservation because 1 bedroom pts per night are higher than studio.

Good luck & have a great trip with your troop :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Thank you. That's what I was thinking about trasfered points and having control.

We already have a 1 bedroom booked at SSR (I did an exchange thru II with a non-DVC timeshare I have), so we will just need a studio. After booking a studio I want to request that we get connecting units, so having control over the reservation will really be helpful.

Thanks for your advice/input. This will be our 3rd troop trip, 1st one was NY state, 8/08 we flew to Florida and took a 4 night cruise, and now we booking this WDW trip in 8/09. I have a small Troop (5 girls) and they haven't travelled much, so they're having a lot of fun with it.
