Point renting question?

We are planning a short stay in Disney from December 28th-January 02/04.

All in all we are 9 people....1 family of 5 and 2 of 2 people each. We could rent all together in a large place or separate. Any suggestions/availability/ prices available??

The Resorts are all pretty steep and as this is being added on to a cruise...we are not able to 'splurge' too much!

Thanks for any tips!

The cheapest points will be at OKW and they have the largest units. If one of you is an AP holder, check those discounts as well. Also visit mousesavers.com or use Dreams Unlimited (they are first rate).

Disney is opening a new value resort called Pop Century this December. That may be an option to try something brand new.

You should check the point rental boards.

It would seem that you may be able to get something from someone who had a trip planned but had to cancel it at the last minute. Sometimes you see those at this time of year. Or you may be able to get something from a scalper (someone who has booked rooms at prime times and rents them out at inflated prices).

Just renting points at this point and using them for a reservation will be next to impossible for this New Year's. There are many people on this site who are already on wait lsists for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. A couple of the days you mention you may be able to get through an owner who is willing to rent points.

New Year's Eve is a very bust time at WDW. There may not even be any availability at DVC resorts. Even so, the cheapest is a studio at OKW and it's 68 points for your dates.

If you need to be at a Disney resort, your best bet would be one of the All Stars or Pop Century at $114 per night. However, it would be a tight squeeze for the family of 5 unless one of them is under 3.

You may want to consider staying off-site if price is a real factor. You can get some great deals, even over NYE, on Priceline. Check www.biddingfortravel.com for tips on bidding on PL.

For your suggestions. I know it is a bad time of year. Usually we arrive for Christmas and just squeak in with the December rates. Not this time!

We are all annual passholders but nothing is offered at this time it seems.Unless I am missing something.

I appreciate your help..:)

As the others have pointed out, you picked the single busiest time of the year to take a short trip to Disney. If you can rearrange your stay to a different time, you would have better luck. I wouldn't rent points at this time of year, no matter what, since it's the most expensive then, point-wise. I go down during the Christmas holidays, but I don't use my points, because I can get the dates cheaper with cash, since I am an AP holder. You can get the rooms 1/2 price if you come in before Christmas, even if you stay thru New Years. I just added the 31st to my ressie at BC for $194 per night including tax. I am arriving on the 23rd, so whatever your price is upon arrival is the price you pay for each night. If I arrive on the 25th, I would have to pay $388 per night for the same room. There are no rooms available for points then.

change my dates but I cannot. We are on a cruise from Dec 21st-Dec 28th so that is pretty much it!!

We just thought being as we are in Florida we may as well spend New Years at Disney (We usually always spend Christmas) and I am finding the rates really a bit out of my league. If I could get my in-laws to check in for me on Dec 26th I could get a great rate at the AKL but that gets a bit confusing and I would be paying for 2 rooms for 2 nights that I am not using.

Back to the drawing board..

Thanks again!

That may actually be your best bet. AKL is $109 for a standard view AP rate which comes out to $854 for all 7 days or $170 for the 5 days you'll need. Regular rates are $325!

Edited to add:
The $170 for AKL includes tax. It's $152 pre-tax :).
