Ok, rather than letting supply and demand rule how about this. Since a cartel would be illegal we borrow a page from DVC.

Everyone kicks in some cash for a fund. Every point rental done on the DIS has to be reviewed. If it passes standards it goes through, if not....ROFR. Those points can then be traded to members for a fair price or used to make a reservation and sold on ebay to pay the fund.

"man i just offered 9.50 a point for a BWV standard view during F&W and got ROFR'ed, i'll try 11.50 next time."

I know i'm just dreaming, but ...............

Actually, I like the idea!

Hmmm...I kind of like this idea too. I won't be competing with renters for my standard view BWV rooms at 11 months. (I'm sorry, but that just bugs me.) :rolleyes1

I'll participate in price fixing all day long.

I look forward to someone trying to stop me.

I also think there should be two price structures. If a renter is requesting someone use HOME points to book a trip at 11-7 mths I think the pts should rent for a higher price. Pts rented at 7 mths or less shouild be cheaper.

I don't think you are dreaming at all. Heck, you could do this tomorrow. Just put up a notice on the Rent board offering $10 (or $10.50 or whatever you think the price should be) for any points people want to transfer to you. In one stroke you'd eliminate all rentals for less than that price. No price fixing needed.

damn good idea salmon. In fact, a person with some e-bay know how and a dvc membership could probably make a heck of a living offering 12 bucks a pt HERE for transfers, and booking Sun-Thur vacations at WDW and selling them on e-bay.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I wouldn't support MASS transfers to a few people at 10 bucks. Now for 12-13, i might listen, that would STILL ALLOW them to sell/rent the points out and make quite a profit.

And that would be Commercial use and not allowed. ;)

You're too late. It's already being done.

Wouldn't a fair solution be to rent to a non dvc owner at a rate that allows them to SAVE 20% on the cost of the room? With a min price of $11.50 per point (the established break even pt)?

Who wouldn't be happy saving 20%?

The real solution would not to allow renting of points at all, making the member's name a must on the reservation and the member present. When I joined I became a member of a club not something that allowed anyone to use it. It was suppose to be for members.

This is not meant to be offensive but I just wanted to let you know that when you joined it did say that you can rent, sell, or will your timeshare. So, no it really wasn't set up for just members to use, otherwise that wouldn't have been in your product understanding checklist.

Pa@okw95 you bring up some very good pts. We are members of a "club". A "club" that was set up to be used by the members. I hear you and i respect you thoughts.

But situations do come up where people due to family situations, can't use pts.

I bought into OUR CLUB in 1999 in june, well that next March my father died, due to some complications with buisness, I simply couldn't use the points, nor could I use them the next year if I banked them. So I was able to rent them, for 10 dollars (once again, this was 7 years ago)

So there are times when members do need to rent out points, or maybe even get MORE transferd for a special family gathering.

I do hear you though.......

Come on Pa ! So sending my over worked brother to WDW for a 5 day getaway like I'm doing this May is out? :confused3 Think it through before you post. I can't think of too many people who would back your idea. DVC rents rooms for cash, should they eliminate that too? After all, those cash guests aren't members. Pa, do you have any points to rent? Maybe I'll take them off your hands. With your attitude I'm sure many would like you to skip a year or ten. pirate: EVERYONE is entitled to stay if they pay. The real point here is that rentals are going far to cheap.

If you sell it or will it, then you are no longer the "owner", the new person is the OWNER/MEMBER.

Show me where it the DVC contrat it says I can "rent" out my points for compensation.

I'll wait........

Its on the very first page of your contract on the bottom left side in bold. It does not say for compensation but it does say that you can RENT it at a significant competivite disadvantage. Obviously you didn't pay attention to that part when you signed B3. To think I was gaining confidence in you

Read before you sign.

Page 1 Section 6

"You may rent, sell, transfer, or will your Ownership Interest. DVD has a right of first refusal to repurchase your Ownership Interst on the same terms and conditions, including financing, that your buyer has offered. DVD currently provides no assistance in resale or rental of your Ownership Interest. In the event you attempt to resell or rent your Ownership Interest, you would compete with DVD for buyers and renters at a substantial competitive disadvantage."

C'mon B3 you said you'd wait, now I'm waiting. Did you not read this?

you can RENT it at a significant competivite disadvantage.

So I am "allowed" to rent it for a price that is set at a competivite disadvantage.............cool. 14 bucks a pt it is.

"You may rent, sell, transfer, or will your Ownership Interest.

And when you do this, you are NO LONGER the member, which takes away your point.........

you stated the following

I just wanted to let you know that when you joined it did say that you can rent, sell, or will your timeshare. So, no it really wasn't set up for just members to use

If you sell it, or transfer it, or will it, then the new person is THE OWNER. And as far as "renting" it, from a legal standpoint the owner is using it, when someone else rents your points.
