Point Reallocation

Are there any specific rules on reallocating points use for an existing reservation between contracts with the same use year, or is it just up to how knowledgeable and helpful the customer service representative is when you call?

I've just closed on a resale contract that has banked points that I need to use by 9/30/10. I'd like to reallocate points use for a March 2010 reservation to use those banked points instead of current use year points.

you are generally prevented from circumventing the home resort priority. (if your new contract is a different home resort, they will not simply reallocate pts if there is not currently a room available at the resort - functionally, it would work like a cancel-and-rebook except with the same reservation number.)

other than that, they should be willing to work with you.

Make sure the new deed is titled exactly the same as your other deed, and make sure that DVC adds it to your current membership, and does not create a separate membership for the resale.

Is the new contract for the same resort and use year, and did you make the initial reservation during the 11 month window? That can make a difference.

For instance, say your original contract is for BWV and you make a BWV reservation during the 11 month window, but your add-on is for OKW, the points can should not be reallocated, unless there is still availability at BWV, as that would be an abuse of the 11 month window.

If the new contract is for the same resort and use year, and under the same membership number, a MS supervisor/team leader should be able to make the change for you.

We did the details with the contract and it is the same use year, title, etc as our existing contracts. The contract is at HH, where the reservation is, made during the home resort advantage period.

I'll give Member Services a ring tomorrow and try to get them to reallocate.

Technically they are only supposed to do this if the day is available. However, they will often do so if all the contracts are the same home resort or the reservation were made at or after 7 months out and all points under the same master contract.
