hi all
Just 3 weeks to go !!!. Flying from Dublin to Philly then on the Orlando international, i've been told by my travel agent that my bags will go straight through to orlando ?. I thought that you had to go through immigration / customs at point of entry i.e our bags would have to be checked at Philly !. Any thoughts
We are all getting real excited and just can't wait , the kids have been watching playhouse disney none stop to get in the mood !!. I found this site by accident and so far it has been a real gold mine of info.

Regards..........Vic

Hi Vic and welcome:wave:

Yes, I'm pretty certain you're right on this one and the TA is wrong. I'm fairly sure that after you clear customs there will be a baggage re-check area (probably just a conveyor belt) on which to place your checked luggage.

As you're flying to Philly are you travelling with US Airlines? It might just help to post your airline as others who have flown into Philly with the same airline might be able to give you a few tips.

I hope that you all have a great time with :earsboy:

We travelled via Washington Dullas in 2002 and that's exactly how it was for us.

We hooked up with our bags coming off the Washington flight walked them through customs and stuck them back on the belt where they magically found there way onto the flight to Orlando :)

We travel to Orlando via Newark and always collect our cases to go through immigration and customs there. The cases are then put on a conveyor belt 'onward flights' or they are taken by an airport worker who then transfers then for you - within your sight - this happened for the 1st time last year.

The great thing about flying indirect is that when you get to Orlando you are able to get out of the airport so quickly, as you've already handed in your forms at the 1st point of entry airport.

Have a great holiday

The Travel Agent is definitely wrong, you collect your bags go through immigration and customs at your first port of call in the US. In your case this will be at Philly. We flew with US Airways earlier this year and this is exactly what we did.
However on your return to Ireland you don't collect your bags between connecting flights since your first port of call after actually leaving the US is Ireland.

Yours

DANIEL

Ditto for us with US Airways via Philly and we've done the same trip 3 times.

I should think that Vic is returning to Eire and his first port of call after leaving USA is likely to be the same country.

Your'e right of course Alex, I obviously didn't read the first post thoroughly enough.

I've edited my post accordingly.

I understood that people travelling from Eire ie Dublin or Shannon went through US Immigration and Customs at those airports, so you shouldn't see your luggage until your final destination.

So I reckon your TA is right.

Well spotted Malcolm:D

I think the rest of us who replied on this thread made the mistake of assuming that the same procedures would apply to UK and Eire departures. Here's the link from Dublin Airport's web site US pre inspection

Curiously all comments relate to immigration and the page is silent as to clearing customs. Have you any more info on the customs side of things, Malcolm?

Alex:D

No, sorry, I don't.

I'm assuming you go through both but I don't know for sure.

Thanks to all for your quick replies and a special thanks to AMF for that link to dublin airport , looks like our bags will go straight through to orlando.

Thanks..................Vic
