We got our DVC packet in the mail from Disney two days ago (After our resale went to ROFR). In one of the segments about the points and the chart the guy said that the charts dont change. Is this true? In 30 years we will be spending 69 pts for AKV Studio? Or, did I understand it incorrectly?

The points for the entire resort do not change. But Disney can make adjustments in things like the points for an individual night, going up or down, and the seasons change from year to year for particular dates.

When any changes are made though, any increases need to be offset by other decreases so the overall points will not change.

Recently, DVC made weekend nights a bit less expensive and weekday nights a bit more expensive, for example.

So you could not determine now that if you always went March 1-7, it would always cost you the same # of points, exactly.

Disney made two adjustments to the point charts last year. As already posted, the total can't change but the number of points required for a particular stay can. After 8 vacations with the new point requirements, 7 of our reservations required an additional 30-40 points each.

Coincidently, Disney announced that they will now rent you points at $15 per point should you need some additional points to make a reservation.

Unless DVC adds new villas to a resort (like OKW - Bldg 62, 63 and 64 - and SSR - with THV) or eliminates some of the villas because of damage or other problems, the total number of points allocated to that resort will stay the same. The distribution of those total number of points may change from time to time with some days/weeks requiring more or less and some room categories requiring more or less. But where points go up a night or category, they must go down elsewhere.

we are in the same boat. When we bought in we needed 220 points to make the stay we wanted now we need 80 more to make the same stay next year and we only bought in, in march... Oh well....

Are you possibly traveling around Easter? The weeks around that time do change from year to year so some get hit with the Premium season because of it.

For example, in 2011, April 17 - 30 is Premier season, due to Easter, but in 2012 those same dates are Magic Season.

Close... Christmas Eve and New Years are close to 80pts for the two nights. They went up quite a bit this year.

Well,

They can't change the total points on the points chart, but they can change the seasons. Example, GCV for adventure season in 2011, there are 89 days. Next year in 2012 for GCV there will only be 82 days. In the past adventure season has been as short as 75 days. Most of the Florida resorts sport 75 adventure days. So in this regard GCV has a few small perks.

It is a bit, but at least there is an "overall" rule, so they can't just keep raising them every year.

I believe these recent adjustments for weekends/weekdays were based on a lot of Sun-Thurs trips by DVC members. You could save a TON of points by either going for 5 nights or booking cash for the weekend part of your trip.

If you look at the total points for a week in a given season at a given resort, the points haven't changed that much:

I seem to be asking you alot of questions these days You are becomming my OKW Guru You said that buildings were added onto OKW, when did this happen? I bought in 2010 and I just wanted to make sure that I don't have to anticipate major point shifts. Is OKW's total resort points set at this point? Of course if they add more buildings (do they have the room to do so?) I understand more points will go into the total.

The final 3 OKW Buildings (62, 63, 64) were added 12 years ago. They were in the original plans for the resort and were added where the Commodore House (the original DVC sales center) was located before that operation was moved to BWV. The same thing happened when the sales office was moved again to it's present location at SSR and more villas were added at BWV. The point charts did not change at OKW or BWV when those buildings were added. Point charts have been reallocated 3 times - 1996 at OKW, 2010 and 2011 for all DVC resorts open at that time.

yes.

the 60-series buildings that are a little newer (and have elevators) were completed years ago.

The total number of points sold at each resort cannot (and has not) changed. They can reallocate the points (and have done so). If some nights are raised, others must be lowered. The only changes for 2012 will be in the actual dates for Easter and Thanksgiving at the WDW resorts with no change in the total points. Of course, there could be very minor changes for leap year and also for years with an additional weekend night as the year prior of after. Disney also holds a % (2-4) at each resort to allow for rooms removed from member inventory for maintenance issues as well as to allow for the minor changes in the annual points needed for extra weekends, etc. It is not a case of "playing around with the dates each season".

2011 point chart for OKW

if you wanted a 1BR at OKW for 7 nights in may 1994, it would have cost 200 pts. if you wanted a 1BR at OKW for 7 nights in may 2011, it would cost 199 pts.

OTOH, if you wanted a studio for 5 nights sun-thurs in early december, your 35 pt stay cost in 1994 has now increased by 43% to 50 pts. weeknight stays have taken a hit...but if you just stayed 2 nights on a weekend in early december at OKW, your 34 pt stay in 1994 dropped a bit to 26 pts.

if you typically stay for 7 nights, i doubt you'll see any big changes (although early dec is popular enough that it won't surprise me if they move it to a different season.)

timesharing definitely involves a risk of change, so take that into account.
