My wife and I were talking the other day, and we both seemed to remember our rep telling us that the points per room never go up. I was just looking at OKW for October 2010 and October 2011 and noticed the points per room were in fact different. A studio room Sun-Thurs is 9 points a night in 2010, but 10 points a night in 2011.

Did my wife and I remember wrong or has something changed that we didn't know about?

Any thoughts would be appreciated

The total points for an entire resort cannot change.

But within the room categories, seasons, days of the week, etc. points can and have been shuffled around by DVC. Specifically one of the changes in the last few years was to make weeknights higher and weekends lower at some resorts. But any increases have an equal decrease somewhere else.

It's only been the last 2 years that they have done this, and once previously quite a long time ago.

They adjust points to balance out demand for the rooms to try to maintain high occupancy all year round.

Thanks, that helps to explain it somewhat. We just got home from BLT yesterday and loved it. We had to cancel a trip last May and have points that we have to use by Jan 31. So we are looking at going again this November in order to get rid of those points plus plane tickets that expire soon.

It could work in your favour as you may pay less points for your stay.

Although the Sunday through Thursday point requirements increased from 9 points to 10 points, the weekend point requirements decreased from 17 to 14 points. A weeklong stay in an OKW studio in October is 79 points in 2010, but is only 78 points in 2011. The 2010 and 2011 point chart reallocations negatively impacted DVC members who booked mainly Sunday-Thursday stays, and benefited those who booked mainly Friday-Saturday stays. Overall, the point chart reallocations have been "point neutral."

If you log into DVCmember.com there is a section under "plan my vacation" that you can use to "calculate your points". You enter the dates you are interested in traveling and the DVC site(s) you would like to stay at and you can compare which site would work best for you. This way you won't end up "losing" points.

Good Luck.

Hey, I was thinking the same thing.
I remember the sales person telling
me that the points per resort would
never change but I too have seen
them inch higher.
Thought my memory was playing
tricks on me.

The total number of points never changes unless they add and sell more inventory (like they did at OKW when they tore down the Commodore House and built 62, 63 and 64).

However, they can change the number of points required for a single night upwards as long as they change another night downwards to keep the same total.
