Hi Folks

Just wanted to let you know we have updated our online point calculator to include the Beach Club Villas and points for 2003!!!

Please check it out at http://www.wdwinfo.com/resort/dvcpoint.cfm

If you find any discrepancies in the calculator versus what MS tells you - or something isn't working properly please feel free to add it to this thread and we will look at it as soon as we can.

Thanks
John

Are these point figures for say the Yacht Club correct for Choice Season next year?? It is going to be 42 points for weeknights and 76 for the weekend?

This seems like an awful big jump in point valuations from this year to next.

Brian

The point charts for 2002 and 2003 are on the DVC member website. It looks like for non-DVC resort hotels, there is a 2-point-per-night increase for weeknights and a 4-point-per-night increase for weekends for most resorts. :( The only exceptions are the moderates, which have 1- and 2-point increases for weeknights and weekends, respectively.

Hi Brian

I just checked this against the points from the charts listed on the DVC Members site and they the Yacht Club Resort in Peak Season (what I equated to Choice season in our system for the sake of continuity) in a Standard View Room as 42 points Sun-Thurs and 76 Fri-Sat.

OK...that makes more sense that these point values would be for the Peak seasons. I wish there was some way that once we buy in that thepoint values for the resorts outside of DVC would be frozen, or at least the total points would be frozen just like they are for DVC resorts.

I am not saying that I wouldn't mind staying at a DVC resort the majority of the time, but I'd also like the opportunity to try out one of the other resorts such as Yacht, GF, or Poly if I chose to.

Something struck me as I read your follow-up Brian. Point values are supposed to be fixed - i.e. the total points at OKW or Boardwalk can never increase but they can be shifted around.

The same is true for the non-DVC resorts as well as the Disneyland CA and Paris resorts. Total points will always stay the same.

Here's what I think happened - since the opening of BCV, DVC no longer offered the Beach Club as one of it's non-DVC properties. It added Animal Kingdom Lodge in it's place. Perhaps this shift in resorts being offered made the Yacht CLub more 'valuable' and that's why the points increased there.

Just a theory.

John

Webmaster John... Are you sure about the total points for non-DVC resorts NOT changing. I thought they could change the non-DVC resorts. It is just the DVC resort points where the total amount of points can't change.

OH - maybe I'm wrong about this. I thought that among all of the non-DVC properties the point value could not change. Same for DL CA and DL Paris.

Hmmmm - if that isn't the case, and the cost for the non-DVC properties increases every year the points needed will increase along with them. Then it is possible that the non-DVC properties will get to cost so many points that it would be unlikely anyone would stay at a non-DVC property.

Anyone else have any info on this?

John

According to the Policy and Guidelines document that covers The Disney Collection (non-DVC properties at WDW, DL, and DL Paris):

- The point values for these properties can change at any time, even during the current year

- The ability for DVC members to "rent" these properties on points can be eliminated at any time, with or without prior notice

I guess you should get the rooms while you can, huh?

I am chiming in here even though I am not a DVC member as of yet. One thing I think that is keeping me from taking the plunge is that it appears as though Disney keeps bending over backwards for the cash paying customer rather than giving some advantages to people who are actually "investing" money in some of their properties.

If it is costing us more in points to stay at a non-DVC resort, shouldn't it be the same when the shoe is on the other foot, i.e. a cash paying customer attempting to get a room at a DVC resort?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't believe that there is a price hike for a cash paying customer to come in and make a reservation at a DVC resort, which then takes away a room for a possible DVC rental.

They get maid service in the DVC resort daily, but we would only get it every 4 days, and then it is only emptying trash.

I know the overall value eventually would even out, but don't you think that a DVC membership should get you a little more than it does?

Actually the DVC resorts have increased their cash prices accordingly. The rack rates have increased about the same % as the other Disney resorts.

As with the other resorts, there are sometimes discounts available which make the rates seem lower, but they are pretty proportionate.

The points reservations are based on rack rates and are not discounted like the cash rates. Accordingly, the best value for DVC points will always be at DVC resorts.

Enjoy!

So Doc...what you're telling me is that if a cash paying customer went and reserved a studio at BCV that they would be paying more than say a standard or water view at YC or BC?? I might be wrong, but I don't think that's the case.

What I am saying is that a comparable room at a DVC resort should be more expensive to a cash paying customer than say a room at the BC and YC. If it is not, then where is the advantage of having DVC resorts for DVC members?? It just seems as though it is easier for a cash paying guest to get a DVC room than it is for a DVC member to get a non-DVC room.

To me, in a perfect world, the DVC resorts should be for DVC members only, but I know this won't happen because Disney wants to fill these rooms if at all possible when DVCers aren't filling them.

Guests who reserve a DVC room for cash are NOT taking a room away from a DVC member. Almost all of the rooms that are available for cash are available because a DVC member chose to use points for a non-DVC option. Non-DVC options include stays in a non-DVC WDW resort, DCL, DLP, selected high-quality accomodations/advenyture tours in other states & countries and exchanges for other timeshare properties. In order for those options to be available to DVC members, the points used for the non-DVC choices are used to put DVC rooms into the inventory that CRO rents to the general public. In summary, the rooms rented for cash are mostly used to pay for the non-DVC options members choose to pay for with points.
