Poinciana - what's it like?

My parents are looking at properties out in Florida and one of the areas they'd like to know about is Poinciana. Is anyone familiar with the area?

Any info. would be appreciated.

We drove down there to have a look in 2001 and there really wasn't much to it, unless we missed the main part of town. It was not super well developed though there was a large modern grocery store and and a couple gas stations and there may ( or may not) have been a coupel fast food places. There were some nice looking housing areas that we didn't go into and some smalled ones that we did that were a bit bland. The drive down from Kissimee was on a dengerous seeming two way road with loads of traffic moving at 55 miles an hour.

Poinciana is it's own town. It's definately not Kissimmee. It's far enough away from Kissimmee and Disney to where the prices are lower, but that's about the only redeeming quality. There are lots of other places around Kissimmee that are better. Poinciana is more for the lower income people of the area. Hope that helps.

I wouldnt say it was for lower income people, it is in Polk cty and has lower taxes etc. than orange or oceola. Ther is a great 50+ development called Solivita. know people who live there and realy LOVE it.
they also have a new shopping center with a nice Publix and icecream shop as well as pack and ship. They also have a windixi shopping mall. ther is a great new york pizza parlor and pizza hut 2/3 chinese 3/4 fast foods etc
they have a really nice library maybe nicer than the one in Kissimmee.
some of the areas/developments are not as nice as others, but that is everywhere.
as for the roads you have 2 main into the area, plesant hill a 4 lane devided and poinciana a 2 lane that is going ot be widned in the next few yrs.
Both of these have some realy nice developments (I live in one).
I realy like the area we live in just 7 miles form poinciana and about 10 from Kissimmee. and 15 from WDW(and work)

forgot this is also where Disneys wilderness preserve is located, also Hourse world stables, forever Florida(I think that is the name) and green meadows petting farm.

My parents are still looking around just now, but they are finding it quite difficult to find info. on the communities and surrounding areas of the develpoments they are interested in.
