Our past 2 trips we (myself and DH) stayed at POR - once in Acadian House, once in AB. We liked both of them very much. For our next trip we were considering POFQ...

Is it that different from POR landscaping-wise? We liked that it is smaller than POR, that it's just been rennovated, and that the bus will pick us up first. Any other pros to think of? The only con I thought of was that Boatwright's (which we like) is at POR - but can't we just get off the bus when it stops there? Or walk - how long does it take between the two resorts?

Thanks:D

Though Dixie Landing is my fav. resort, the French Quarters should be great after the refurbishing. A smaller resort and before it closed recently the food court had just been redone/upgraded. We visited it before it closed and thought it was a great improvement. I recently read an article in the CM newsletter that came out this week on the refurbishing. Sounds great. Here are the highlights:

New carpet and paint. New art and Mickey themed bedding. Newly tiled floor. Irons and ironing boards and hairdryers in all rooms. A newly installed privacy curtain between vanity area and bedroom area. NEW larger TVs in all rooms. So sounds like everything will be new and fresh for its grand reopenning! It is a hike to Boatwright's dining hall depending where you are located at FQ, but you always have the buses. Haven't heard anything regarding the marina and how that will function yet (or the bike rental area). The landscaping is very similar to POR so that both resorts blend in together. They do only have the one large themed pool with a hot tub.

I think based on the rehab, POFQ is your best bet. We have friends who just came back from POR and they thought it was "tired looking". Take a look at the map and request a bldg. close to POR, then you can enjoy the best of both resorts.

I have a question about room requests at POFQ. I was told on this board to request Bldg 5 as that is the most centrally located bldg but then I read this:

Buildings 2, 4 and the top 2 floors of 6 are designated Smoking rooms

We are smokers. So obviously these are our choice of buildings. Which one should we request? In order of importance we would like to be close to:1)the pool, 2)the food court, 3)the bus stop. Any recommendations? Also, I kind of think we'd prefer to be ground floor instead of messing with stairs but I don't really know.

wow POFQ sounds great now! and with the dragon slide
it is a better themed pool.

does anyone have photos of the new rooms?

When we stayed at FQ July 2002 I know only the top floor of 2 was smoking. I also know that 4 was a non smoking building because we too are smokers and requested building 4 and they said none of 4 is smoking. I also was told with the renovations all the smoking rooms was going to change.
With the resort being smaller than others it isn't a far walk to the pool or food court at all.
Just to let you know there are elevators in all buildings so you wouldn't have to use the stairs if you don't want to.

It wasn't the actual stairs I was concerned about, it's just easier to be ground level I think.

Thanks for the input on the smoking rooms. You're right that they may have changed the smoking areas during refurbishment. I guess I better call back and have "smoking" notated on my reservations as I didn't think to mention it originally. I usually tell them when we're checking in but it would be easier if I mention it up front I bet.
