We've always stayed deluxe. Polynesian or Contemporary. My 21 year old is paying for this trip. We were looking at CL at Polynesian or AKL or Contemporary. We were going to do the fee for three extra FPs per person. (He's interning at a well paying company this summer and is a Disney fanatic).

Well yesterday we were talking and I priced out POFQ river view with park hopper and quick service dining plan. That's $1200 cheaper than least expensive club level!!! Without any discount which we are hoping we might get if one realeased for August.

So it looks like POFQ has good reviews. Personal experiences staying there - any negative feedback. We'd have a car.

Never done the dining plan- pros/cons.

Going from deluxe to moderate can be hard. Rethinking from club level to s moderate would be a huge adjustment! The price difference is huge for a reason. That said I really like POFQ. We went from hardcore WL fans to POFQ for a couple of trips. It’s a really lovely small resort with understated themeing. The rooms would be smaller than you’re used to, and exterior corridors. Walking out the door to the river is so peaceful though. Good luck with the decision, it wouldn’t be an easy one if you have the funds to stay concierge instead though!

What type of a touring person are you? I.e. do you hit the parks most of the time during the day, or do you spend a lot of time at the resorts?

If you are going to be at the parks most of the time, then I would definitely say POFQ makes sense. Use that extra money for something fun, maybe a tour or something? I stayed there in September and loved it! Very peaceful and relaxing and a small footprint, so easy to walk to everything.

But if you are going to be spending a lot of time at the resorts, I would consider sticking Deluxe? POFQ doesn't have a dedicated restaurant, though Boatwrights is just next door at POR, and Disney Springs is a relaxing boat ride away, but they just have the quick service food counters.

We are DVC owners at BWV and have stayed at several others deluxe resorts and others DVC rersorts. We are also POFQ fans! We love the resort size and the location. As the PP said, the walk along the river is so beautiful and peaceful; a quick walk over to POR for a change of pace; nice QS at either resort; we had great bus service. Can’t say enough good things. I always recommend POFQ, and I have stayed at other moderates.

I agree with the PP The price difference is for a reason.
If I could I definitely would stay Deluxe CL. Regardless I would never do QS Dining Plan. I want at least one sit down, served, table service meal per day. If I could not afford my trip I would delay it while I saved enough to do it that way.

Few thoughts ~

HUGE difference between those deluxes and POFQ, which doesn't even have a full range of moderate amenities.

Have done both Dining Plans, and I personally would never get QSDP again. I'd rather just eat on my terms, mix in a few TS and not worry about trying to break even.

You won't be able to get the extra FP+ you planned at POFQ.

Did you price those deluxes not staying CL, since you are willing to give it up for POFQ, I would look at those savings and see about staying deluxe.

Thanks for the replies.

Only reason CL was extra FPs but not a deal breaker if we don't do. Last year we did DVC presentation and got 3 additional FPS. I look at are 15 FPs worth an additional $500

We were looking at the ultimate Day of Thrills VIP tour. We are not at resort much as we hit parks early and go until they close.

Regarding dining plan not 100 per sure as last August we stayed TPV at Contemporary and had food delivery. We did eat at Tippins - hated it! Ate offsite lots. Did KTTK tour too.

To be honest the cost isn't a factor. I'm thinking as a reasonable mom trying to instill good financial planning for my son! He'd stay TPV CL at Contemporary if he had his way!

I appreciate the opinions on resort, it's good hearing first hand experience.

The savings from staying at POFQ could really help out your son as he starts his life after college. This money could be used to pay down school loans, be the security deposit on an apartment, the start of a down payment on a car or home, groceries for year or a nice emergency fund.

That's what I'm thinking. I'm covering airfare, car rental and the VIP tour. Plus food while there whether dining package or no package.

We have stayed GF CL and POFQ is our favorite moderate. The small size with the boat to DS gives it a relaxed feeling.

The rooms were a decent size; the only place we really felt it is with no balcony, which we liked to sit out on after the kids went to sleep.

The other biggest difference was that there was no monorail to MK.

But the cost savings between the two types is a no brainer for us and we felt POFQ as a resort itself is lovely and has enough amenities to feel like an enjoyable vacation.

Well sounds like you don't really even need a Disney resort. How about looking at Disney Springs since they get 60 day FP+ and EMH this year. The DoubleTree is a nice sized suite, great for an adult group, puts you closer to lots of other dining AND your DS can begin to build some Hilton points for a future trip. This would also likely save you some money from a Disney hotel. You can get a suite for around $140 right now in August plus parking so about $160 a night; POFQ would be about $280 per night before discounts (maybe $220 after). Worth thinking about.

Well FQ is my families favorite resort. Some things we like, the boat to Disney Springs, one bus stop, everything is compact and the longest walk you will have is about 7 minutes (and that's if you are in one of the farthest rooms at FQ).

We were considering a stay at the FQ, but just can’t do it. Unfortunately we have always stayed deluxe except for one night POR which was ok, just not deluxe :-). I will always recommend to people that have never been to DW to never start off deluxe. Once you do it’s really tough to downgrade. I think we are officially deluxe snobs :-). Wish we weren’t as we could save thousands.

Wow lots to think about here.

1. Making the switch from Deluxe to Moderate is tough sometimes. I recently did it and loved it but that's not for everyone.
2. Going from CL to moderate is an even bigger switch which I think you need to reevaluate what you are looking for.
3. In general POFQ is a great resort and I love staying there. Having been basically a Deluxe only person all my life I can say for sure that it is doable.
4. Not sure why you want to do the Quick Service DP. I don't find that to work well especially at the Deluxe Resorts. IMO I wouldn't get a DP.

I totally agree with this. No balcony and transportation difference are the biggest two. Other than that, it is just beautiful. I have stayed at all resorts of all levels, and this year, we are doing POFQ. Lovely, peaceful and frankly one of the best bangs for your buck by far. DH compares it to BWI being small as well. If you are going to make the switch, this is the resort to do it in. I

We stayed at AKL for several trips in a row renting DVC points and I absolutely loved it. When it wasn't available the next time we were booking a trip, we booked POFQ instead and I had a really hard time getting excited about it. I had stayed at POFQ before and loved it, but after staying at AKL so many times now I felt like I was just going to be disappointed. Well, we just got back from POFQ last week and I was blown away!! I still love AKL but I did not miss it at all on this trip. I absolutely loved the smaller size of the resort so we could easily access all of the amenities (pool, food quart, gift shop, etc.) no matter what building you were in, and the grounds are so nice just to take a stroll through. We're staying there again in October and I absolutely can't wait to go back! We may use some of the savings to book an "extra" that we otherwise wouldn't have, like adding hoppers or maybe a night at Hoopty Doo, but aside from the savings I am genuinely excited about staying at POFQ again and don't feel like we're "settling" in any way. Also- if you're really wanting to the save the money but are having a hard time getting yourself excited about a moderate resort, waiting youtube videos of the resort and hearing why others love it so much always helps to get me in the spirit :)

Mods are nothing like deluxes. Know that.

I recommend looking at a standard room at one of the less-expensive deluxes, rather than jumping down to moderate. A standard room at AKL, for example, isn't much more than certain rooms at some moderates.

We stayed at POFQ first and then did akl the next year. Dh and I agreed that we liked POFQ even more! It is so small, quiet, and I love the walkways/roads. It makes you feel like you’re in a little town.

If at all possible I would stay at a deluxe if I can afford it.

We did Poly and BC last trip and I did NOT want to do a moderate this trip. We rented points at BWV for a week and I added on two nights at the beginning at POFQ. It's a resort I've always wanted to try and I figure it's only two nights and since it's the first two days of our trip we will be mostly in the parks running off pure adrenaline. I don't think we will be disappointed but I would much rather stay at a deluxe.
