We are going to Disney World in 17 days and we're staying at POFQ. I've read in books that it's not the best resort. I was wondering if you guys/girls had anything to say about it I should know before I go. Like stuff to watch out for, bad mousekeeping, bad food? And the really big question is about lifeguards at the pool. How many are there? Do they do their job real well?

Thanks,
Haylea

I was there in 06. We loved it. Will be there again in Aug. My dd is 6 and ds will be 13 right before we get there. First of all it very small and quaint which is good if you have little ones like me. You do enough walking at the parks. I don't want to have to walk miles in the resort itself. The lifeguards were always walking around the pool no problem there. Wasn't crazy about the food court. Its ok but I don't plan on eating too much there. If you eat there once in a while its ok.Will also walk over to POR to eat.The grounds are beautiful. The boat to DD was a big hit with the kids. The busses always pick up and drop off first at POFQ then head over to POR unless its really crowded then we each have our own bus.The rooms were nice. All and all I (we) love it at POFQ. Have a great time

Everything you read and reported on ... I disagree with! :cool1:

My opinion is exactly the opposite. Never had or witnessed a problem with Mousekeeping, food, lifeguards/safety.

If you keep looking, you'll read negative reviews and complaints about every single WDW resort ... and every single Ritz-Carlton, and every single Four Seasons ... and so on ....

We've stayed at POFQ twice and our room was always clean. The food court had the same problem that I've seen at every WDW resort-- too crowded at breakfast and ho-hum food after a lengthy wait.

We've only used the pool late evenings when the lifeguards are gone. But, my experience with lifeguards at every WDW pool lead me to believe you should keep an eye on your kids. Some guards are very diligent, and some aren't so much.

I love POFQ! We would be staying there this August if we could get rooms.

POFQ has become our resort of choice! The size of the resort, the boat to DTD, theming. You will have a great time!

For everything POFQ try going to http://www.portorleans.org/index.htm :thumbsup2

We are going back for our third consecutive stay there...honestly I haven't been to any other resort, but we love the small size, which makes it always feel very empty...all the other mods and values are much bigger. I would be very surprised if anyone would consider it better than a deluxe resort, but their might be someone out there.

The busses stop here before stopping at POR, so on the way to the parks you get on the bus first...meaning you get a seat...and on the way "home" you get off the bus first...this reason alone I would not stay at POR. Sometimes, you get your own bus, but not often. The bus service was pretty good both times, except to AK, which seemed to be about 30 minutes between busses.

We had no problems with Mousekeeping, though I left them a $2 tip every day instead of at the end of the trip. We had three consectuive days with towel animals. Rooms were clean...I wouldn't call them great, seemed a tad worn for rooms that were supposedly renovated in 2005.

There are at least two and I believe it was actually three lifeguards on duty during the day. One monitors the bottom of the slide at all times. They were very friendly and great with the kids. One day we were there they had a "treasure hunt". POFQ gives out beads and coins like crazy and they had this bin with about 500 plastic coins which they threw into the water for the kids to dive for. Our DD was 4 at the time and not quite swimming, so I sat with her on the staris while the kids did a "feeding frenzy" all around me. One of the lifeguards was in the pool helping the smaller kids out. They would collect the coins and then throw them back in. DD loved it.

Me too :thumbsup2

I had no issues with POFQ. We enjoyed to resort, thought that it was lovely with the lush gardens, quiet walkways and the river always in view.

I think that there are no resorts that have a perfect review every time. Guests have different expectations, mousekeepers have bad days, buses encounter traffic problems and life happens. Also while many have positive experiences and would visit again those folks may not post, but people who have had unpleasant experiences want to warn others.

I would have no problem staying at POFQ again.

How many pools does POFQ have?

Does POFQ have one pool only? I just saw the map and it looks like there is only one. Can you use the pools at the other PO resorts? I don't want to have to crowd into one pool with other guests.

POFQ has 1 pool with the serpant slide and then I think there's a little kiddie pool right near it. But you can use the pool at POR also.

We loved POFQ. So far, it's our favorite Mod. I can't say much about the food though because I think we only ate there once. But Mousekeeping was great. They made us a couple towel animals even though we hadn't tipped them day by day. We never took the bus either. We always get a rental car and just find it easier for us because then we don't feel that we're wasting time waiting for a bus.

We enjoyed the boat to DTD too. Thought it was nice to see a part of WDW that you don't often get to see.

POR has several pools. POFQ has only one pool, but I understand you can walk over and use the POR pools if you want.

We stayed there in end of Nov/beg.of Dec 07 and will be back in Sept 08! We love it. I asked my dd where she wanted to stay this year (AKL, WL, POR or POFQ) and she chose POFQ again. She adored it and the CM's were wonderful.

There were 4 lifeguards around the pool during the days we stayed. They played games with the kids and really made our stay extra fun.

Walk in with an open mind and you'll have a wonderful experience. :yay:

We love POFQ!!! We have stayed twice with small children, and they have loved the pool..I can't really comment on the lifeguards, but the resort for us has always been quiet, and very easy to get to the food court and store. The buses were awesome the both times we were there, and we didn't really have any long waits. The food court is a bit limited in my opinion, but we always found something for everyone. The walk to Riverside is great, not too long, and the boat to DD is a great way to travel too. Our room was clean, and the mousekeeping was fine for us!!

I hope you have a great time!!:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

We stayed at POFQ in 2006 & everybody loved it. we had no issues at all. The only reason we went to Coronado this year was to try a different place. we will go to POFQ next time though. We especially loved the boat ride to Downtown Disney. It seemed shorter & cooler than the buses in the heat of summer.

We will staying there in September for the 6th time, and I have to say it is our favorite resort. Anyplace can have an occasional problem(mousekeeping, food court). Overall it is a very good resort, well maintained and a good location(first pick up and drop off for the buses).

As for the lifeguards, you have nothing to worry about. They are constantly patrolling the pool(not sure how many, but more than enough), so that will not be an issue.

There is only one pool, but we never found it to be very crowded at all, and we spent a decent ampunt of time there. The most we ever saw was about 40 people, and this is a pretty darn big pool. You can use the POR pools, but it is a good 10 minute walk. We haven't done it yet, but we are planning an off-day this next trip, and I am hoping we can go over there for bit to check them out.

I'm surprised that you've read bad things about POFQ - seems like every WDW site I've ever checked out has it as their top mod choice. I personally love it!
