So on our first trip last year we went all out, since it was going to be our one and only trip to Disney, :rotfl2: On the way home all we could talk about was our next trip. :rotfl: We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge in December. We are thinking about trying POFQ. We don't spend just a ton of time at the resorts and we are going again in December 2010 so probably won't use the pool that much. What comments does anyone have that has stayed at both resorts.

Thanks

I have stayed at Both so I will see if I can help.
First the rooms are about the same size POFQ 314 vs WL 344.

WL has a balcony which is very a little extra room/privacy. FPOFQ Double beds WL Queen beds or one queen & bunkbeds.

WL is housed in one building.

We liked the Food Court at POFQ better but POFQ does not have a Table Service place WL has 2. You can go to the TS at POR. WL has Room Service.

Pools are about equal IMHO.

Transportation about the same also, except a little better to MK at WL.

I liked both alot. If it was in the budget I would choose WL or AKL.

We started out staying at WL, then stayed once at POFQ. WL is beautiful, and if money was no object it's where we'd stay all the time. But I was pleasantly surprised with POFQ. It was quaint and convenient, and very quiet. No loud door banging or music hoopla. The pool was nice, not as woodsy as the one at WL, but the kids had lots of fun just the same. POFQ isn't as conveniently located to MK as WL, but it's closer to the other parks, so the transportation evens out. The food court seemed about the same to us.

Last year we stayed at ASMusic, and won't do that again. It was okay, just not the same as WL or POFQ. We're planning a trip for this spring, and it's back to POFQ.

We've never stayed at either. We have no desire to stay at the WL--just doesn't do anything for us (just a personal opinion); the only reason we've not stayed at POFQ is because we always stay at the CSR and we can't tear ourselves away. If the CSR were not available, we would stay at the POFQ in a heartbeat. It is a very nice resort and very pretty. Love the fact that you can take a boat.

POFQ
Bigger food court than WL, beignets!
Smaller, easy walk to food court, buses
We always had a seat on the bus and didn't wait long
Less expensive
Boat to downtown Disney!
Live music in the evenings at Scat Cat's Club

WL
Disappointed in food court
Rooms are bigger than FQ, nice theme
Buses were crowded, we often had to wait awhile
Boat to MK!
Beautiful lobby and lodge overall is astounding!
Inside corridors vs. outside

We've stayed at both and love to stay at different resorts to try the unique experience each has to offer. We have stayed at WL several times and love it, especially wonderful at Christmas. We stayed at POFQ last Christmas for the 1st time and really had a flawless experience and would return without hesitation! Housekeeping was terrific and all the cast members were friendly and very helpful at both resorts. At FQ we received towel animals every day, but never expected them= just a nice little extra, did I mention beignets? Even if we spent a lot of time in the resort, I would be happy to stay at POFQ; you will have a terrific holiday- wishing you much pixie dust! pixiedust:

We stayed at the Wilderness Lodge for our Honeymoon and it was phenomenal! My wife and I were actually chatting about it. We're also looking at POFQ for our next trip and have heard nothing but great things about it. Being from the New Orleans area, I always stayed away from this resort but many people that live out here love it. The best part is the sheer savings we'll get. The downside (IMHO) is that it will take longer to get to the MK.

I think the bus situation is really dependent upon when you were there. We were at WL in January and had the bus almost to ourselves most of the time. I NEVER had a problem with the bus transportation to and from the WL.

We have stayed at the WL twice, the last time was just this past weekend...and we stayed at the POFQ in June and loved it...we love them both really but the POFQ seems much quieter and calmer, the pool is not as busy and the food court is def quieter than Roaring Forks. We are headed back for 11 days at the POFQ in Oct and I cannot wait!

WL, POFQ/POR, BC are out favorite resorts. I'm not sure how you make decision to stay at one over the other. If money is no object we would pick WL over POFQ. If money is an issue, I don't think you will be disappointed with POFQ.

I've stayed at POFQ and WL. There are some great posts comparing amenities, so I'll skip that part.

I love WL, but I just didn't "get" POFQ. It just felt like a hotel room that could be anywhere. DH feels the same way.

If we do a mod again, I think that I'd try POR Alligator Bayou section next (we actually were booked there in 2007 before I changed to WL).

We've stayed at both, and love both. Stay where you can afford - both are great resorts.

They are both nice resorts, but the WL is a lot nicer. If you can afford it, got for it. If you would rather try a moderate I think FQ is a good choice. It is much smaller than the other moderates and does have the plus of the boat to DTD.

Enjoy your vacation.

Another vote for the WL if it is within your budget. :thumbsup2 I like it because it is all in one building, the decor is beautiful you have quick serve and sit down restraunts and for a change you can catch the boat or walk if you want over to Fort Wilderness. :goodvibes

We have never had any trouble with the buses or the boat to the MK. WL is our family favorite resort and where we stay whenever we go. :thumbsup2

I say give POFQ a try, it is truly beautiful in December with the Mardi Gras themed decorations. I love POFQ so true to its New Orleans theme, I felt I was in a cleaner, quieter version of the French Quarter. Disney did a great job on it in regards to theme.

Great food court and definitely a quieter resort than WL.

We've stayed at both FQ and WL.

WL is beautiful, but our room was just ok, nothing really special (woods view). The food court was very limited.

FQ's food court was much better and has beignets :lovestruc. Everything is close. Mousekeeping was great. (:wave2: Hi, Marie!!)

I have stayed at both of these resorts and personally feel that while Wilderness Lodge is nice, it is not worth the extra expense. The food court was the biggest problem for me. It is very tiny. POFQ is perfectly adequate. Going during Christmas time, everything will be decorated and lit up. POFQ is very nice at Christmas. But if you really wanted a deluxe resort, go for Animal Kingdom Lodge. Its a great resort and my favorite place to stay at Disney World.

Thanks to all who replied....We loved WL so much that we (meaning I) am afraid we won't like another resort as much. I do think that we would like to try a different resort. What about the busses? Anybody have any issues in December with the busses from POFQ? We will probably be going to several early character breakfasts...any issues with the busses then?

Thanks
