POFQ...questions and advice WANTED!!!

hey are you really getting a slide a real one that has a ladder and everything???!!!!! we have called around everywhere last summer once we had our pool redone with more concrete/screen etc.. and cannot find a slide anywhere??!!!
and as we speak my boys are swimming best incestment we got was to ditch teh solar and get a heatpump for our pool keeps it nice and warm all year and is not expensive at all... kinda weird to think that a storm is coming as it is so calm here.. we are even gonna go someplace nice for dinner tonight figure one puff and our power goes out (last time it was out for 2 weeks) so i want to enjoy the meals while i can!!!!

We thought we would drive around once we got there but we ended up using teh transportation we had no wait at all and it was much easier than driving and having to take trams from car to gate..
I understand totally about teh whole disney vacation we did that in may with our boys did teh character meals and everything figured may as well let them enjoy.....
good luck...

Yep...it's a big ol' slide with two turns on it! It's called an Extreme II or something like that...my hubby gets all the perks...being in the sales side of the pool business ;)

Right now it's standing there...it's not bolted down...and it's HUGE!! We have to higher our screen!

Another question about AKL....is it really as dark as everyone says? I mean, how bad could it be??

we liked it dark so it did not bother us but yes the lobby atc.. is dark but it has nice fireplace etc...and we spent i whole day just doing activities around teh place they have a whole schedule cookie decorating, bird houses by teh pool, medalioon rubbings and at night the night vision goggle things that hubbie took teh boys to. my boys rae 5&7.. I may need to see about getting in touch with your hubbie we would love to have a real slide installed......

Sounds like AKL has much more to offer than POFQ..the only thing that I really would miss would be the boat ride to DTD.....

Right now the room available for FL resident is a pool view (or savannah...but not gonna pay those prices, when an upgrade could be a possibility)...so I may go for it!

Who built your pool....or redid it, if I may ask!

HI, we've just git back from akl and it's not dark, it's not bright but we stayed at por last year and it didn't feel much lighter, also it's very nice to have a balcanoy, must be honest didn't like dinner at boma's , the bus service was great the're never that crowed only at park closing, and i timed the longest journey was to dtd, and that was about 15mins it's alot qiucker to magic kingdom, than por, i did love the boat to dtd but they have boats all over that you can use, if you fancy a trip on the water

best pools did our pool but that was before we bought it.. when we got the house the pool was very tropical teh whole back of it was filled with plants that overflowed int the pool, our pool also has a special rock pebble surface to it.. but that made t almost impossibe to swim in aguats septmebert becuase of all the bugs mosquitos not too mention teh snakes!!! so last year we started the process to have it screened in.. first we tore up all teh plants rocks etc... then we had an insane amount of concrete poured to make a nice area by bathroom to have a bar, grill and some chairs, as well as room for the rquired spce on far side of pool to have a screen put in.. then just before frances last year our screen was put in (big ordeal had to be custom done) and finally in april we had teh cool deck out down.... really am serious abou the slide we really want one.... so we really did not have our pool redone but the stuff around it,

I think when people talk about the AKL being dark, they're referring to the decor in the guest rooms. It's true that there's dark wood and I believe the bedspreads are a dark color, but we never felt like it was a dark atmosphere. It was very soothing and relaxing to me, but not dark in the sense that you don't have enough light to see.

Sure, we know Best Pools....we had a few different pool companies do ours...a little bit here...a little bit there...my hubby knows EVERYONE in brevard county that has ANYTHING to do with pools...he also travels to Fort Lauderdale, Miami, West Palm , and Boca.....

I don't know anything about pools, or the slide for that matter! It just appeared at our house one day in the biggest box known to man kind!

I do know that they are not cheap...ours was about $1500 but didn't pay a dime for it ;) .....just the perks!! We may not drive the best cars...but we got a real nice pool....ha ha!!

Sorry to other posters regarding the "pool talk"...I am still accepting all the info possible on AKL vs POFQ....THANKS!!!!

I am really leaning towards staying at AKL...my boys really want to...and I had better jump on it soon....

Can anyone tell me if Disney reps are available 24/7 ???

I totally understand everyone who sees our pool now becasue we have sucha huge area screend in is like WOW! and we keep it soo nice and warm my kids are totally spoiled it has to be at least 86 for them to swim in it.. and eight now it is a toasty 89 ahh..... I have looked at slides on teh internet i guess that is what you have to do order it and have it delivered but see my hubbie is totally not a ttol guy or even remotley handy with stuff so i need someone who can install it... $1500 is fine as gramma has said she will go halfsies with us.... well gotta run gonna see whats open for dinner...

nice chatting.....and thanks for the advice! will look forward to your future posts!!

You can book online 24/7, but if you want to do it over the phone, they do go away at night - maybe 9pm eastern?

Maybe I should call today then? It's weird...when I look under FL rates...some days it will say a standard view room is available at AKL and other days it will start with the choice of a pool view or higher....

Is that because people cancel reservations? Right now, a pool view is available...but I think I would have to call because I have reservations at another resort for the same dates...or can I adjust them online?

Also, I would have to apply my FL rate...so I probably have to call, right?

Thanks for the info...I better get on the line...

Does anyone know if AKL will do anything special for...or recognize my son's 7th birthday....which will be during our stay???

:earboy2: I just realized how I turned my POFQ thread into more of an AKL thread!!

Yikes I must be the most indecisive mother on the planet!!! :earboy2:

We stayed at both POFQ and AKL this summer because I couldn't make up my mind either! :rotfl: Maybe if you don't mind packing you could do the same.

I preferred the rooms at POFQ, but the savannah and the pool at AKL is fabulous.

Ok...now I have really thrown in a monkey wrench!

While calling Disney reps to switch my reservation from POFQ to AKL...I was GIVEN THE FL RESIDENT RATE for FQ...that I couldn't get before!!!!!!!

NOW...my total for a 3 nite stay is only $381...and I've already paid almost $200 of it!!

My AKL rate would be $195/nite with a pool view...so that's about $80 more a nite!!

I had said before that if I could get a FL resident rate at POFQ I wouldn't have even started this thread.....but since starting it many of you have convinced me to switch to AKL.....whaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

I switched and got the FL rate at FQ in the meantime...but obviously I could switch it again to go with AKL!!!!

HELP!!!! Are ya sick of me yet???

Ok, so at this point it's a whole new ball game.

You no longer have the "jusitifcation" of equal pricing, but it sounds like maybe you could afford the AKL if you decided you really wanted it. It's 3 nights, right? $195 is still a pretty decent price for AKL, and 3 nights at a deluxe is a lot less to pay for than say, 5 or 7 nights on some future trip, so you could look at it that this is a chance to experience it without paying as much total as you would another time.

On the other hand, you now know how much you would save at POFQ, which is, after all, a really nice resort. (Not as nice as AKL, but IMO, the nicest of the moderates).

I know I'm not being very helpful - I guess you just have to decide a)if you could afford the difference and b) if you want to pay it.
