POFQ- question about buildings/floors

We are almost ready to book our June trip at POFQ. Just DH and I for our first visit for our 25th anniversary. We got a quote with DU for the standard view, but are now asking for a quote for garden view. Are there garden view rooms in each building? Which building should we ask for? Also, DH wants a 3rd story room because he doesn't like to hear people above him. Is this an issue here? Any tips before we make a decision? I've read over the big POFQ thread and other random threads already.

We stayed on the first floor last year. We didn't hear a thing. Did you check out portorleans.org yet? It's a great website and I think it will tell you exactly where the standard and garden view rooms are. Good luck and happy anniversary! :goodvibes

Thank you. I saw that site but must have missed the part of which rooms are which views. That's what I was looking for. I'll go back and check. Thanks!

The only thing you could hear are other people's toilet when they flush but usually, keeping the bathroom door closed helps. Besides that, we felt like we were alone in the building. Lol

Glad to hear good reports about the noise. We don't mind normal "hotel" noises but when you hear people walking around above you, that gets annoying.

There are Garden View rooms in all buildings; overall there are probably more Garden View rooms than anything else. You can request to be on the top floor; in fact, I would make that my primary request. Check out the maps and photos to get an idea of what buildings you would prefer. I was Bldg 5, top floor facing the lawn in the "block" closest to the main building and it was a great location, convenient to the food court and the "short cut" past Bldg 4 to the bus stop (it may not actually be shorter, but it's handy and I got in the habit of using it).

This year was not only my first stay at POFQ, but my first non-deluxe stay. I loved POFQ and am excited to be going back there next year.

Adding: I'd pay the little extra for Garden View just to have more location options. Even though the resort is small and nothing's too far, I'd rather not be out in Bldg 7 or the parking lot side of Bldg 1.

Just what I was thinking about Garden view. I read about someone staying out in building 7 and not caring for it. We will change it to Garden view and I'm thinking about requesting the third floor on building 5, 2, or 3. Are those good buildings to request. I keep hearing 5 come up but others look like they will be nice too. I don't think I want 7 or 1. In the June heat, even a little bit further walk seems like too much.

We keep our blinds closed since people walk right by your window so the view meant nothing to us. We loved POFQ, I am sure you will be happy anywhere. The resort is so small and quaint I'd find it hard to complain about anything. We had a second floor room and I don't remember hearing a thing. I personally would not pay extra for a certain room at POFQ but that's just me. We had a parking lot view which was really a garden with a parking lot behind it, making it difficult to see the parking lot at all.

Yeah, I don't care so much about the view from the room, just thought it would be nicer coming and going through a courtyard instead of walking by the parking lot. Also, I was thinking there more be more car noise coming from the parking lot. And with a garden view we might have a chance of building 5, back in to the resort a little bit. But you are right, I'm sure we will be happy. It looks really pretty in the pictures I've seen.

You should check out the POFQ FAQ thread. It's maintained by the guy who created the portorleans.org site.

Yep, I've been looking through it but it is a lot to look through and I just wanted to nail down some details. What a great resource he's created!

So far we have stayed in 4, 5, 7 and 2.

7 and 5 were very quiet, but 7 seemed like quite a walk to get drinks after a day in the parks. That being said, I may try 7 again just because it was so quiet - we never saw another soul out there. We were on the 2nd floor in Bldg 5 with a garden view and I had no complaints there either. I had previously read if you want quiet ask for 6 or 7.
The location of 4 was great for the buses and food court, but was very loud. That was our last trip and we had 3rd floor, garden view. I was shocked at how loud it was and how loud people are coming back from the parks. Maybe there were just some wild ones last trip but there were kids screaming, not upset screaming, but just loud carrying on screaming very late. I was surprised that people weren't a little more considerate of others. I had to play around with the fan in the room to keep it running all night to drown out some of the noise. That was a bit disappointing. It was a garden view but a lot of people come out of the lobby and go in that direction. It wasn't an isolated incident, it was every night.

What I meant was, why not ask the guy who created the site? He answers questions like yours on the POR and POFQ threads.

When I booked my room for next year, I talked over room requests with the nice CM on the phone. She suggested I pick a couple of buildings I would prefer, and I went with 5 or 2. (No guarantee I'll get those, I know, but just an idea.) I'd be fine with 3, as well. This year, I went "exploring" around the resort and I really liked the courtyard area between 2, 3 & 1 with the fountain and flower beds. I never made it up to the area farthest north between 4, 6 & 7. I was very happy with 5 facing the lawn, but be advised that they show movies on the lawn in the evening, and in June the movies are going to be starting fairly late. I will say the only time I was aware of the movie sound from inside my room was the night they showed "The Incredibles." It wasn't loud enough to be disturbing, but I was aware of all the climactic crashing-and-exploding. ;)

Good to know about the movies. I have been wading through the giant POFQ thread (I'm on page 43 now! ) and my eyes are getting boggled. :faint: Still thinking that 5, 3, or 2 sound like best bets for us. I think I'd mostly like 2. But I want to give several choices and hope for one of them. However, 3rd floor will be our first priority.
