Hi! I'm looking for some opinions about my two choices on where to stay.
I've always wanted to stay at POFQ. Right now it's $149 a night for when I want to go in December.
Now on the other hand my husband is a DOD employee, so we can stay at the Shades of Green. The price them gave him today on the phone was $97 a night.
We are only going for four nights, so the difference is $200.
Which one would you pick and why? :confused3

If you're doing room only, SoG hands down. Nicer rooms, much more of a deluxe feel than POR, and you can't beat the location.

However if you're thinking about a package...

I actually chose POP this time over SoG because I really wanted the dining plan, and just thought my 4 year old would like it better. Of course $200 is a lot of souveniers!!

If SoG is booked for when you want to go be sure and ask them for an overflow rate. You can usually get a really good overflow rate at a moderate. I'm actually surprised they're not booked for December yet.

We are staying at POR Jan3-7. SOG was booked and they are not offering any overflows for our week. I've never seen that happen before! The only drawback for us would be having to rent a car or hire out a service to get you to the SOG. To bad magical express wasn't exteded to the SOG!! I guess I can dream. :goodvibes

Actually it's for the 14th-18th, so it's not the busy time.
It'll be more like room only, spending most of the day in the parks and dinner elsewhere. ( I know one place my hubby is looking forward to is Dan Marino's Town Tavern.)
It'll only be the two of us, no kids. It's birthday present to me. :cake:

We're planning on SoG for our next visit! All this time I thoght hubby had to be active military. :rolleyes1 Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Disney run resorts but for a room like I see in pics and hear about at SoG, a room akin to a deluxe and the nice queen beds, for a fraction fo the deluxe price, I'm going to go to SoG and not look back! If you REALLY want a Disney feel, perhaps you could do SoG for most fo the time and do a night or two at a moderate or Deluxe. And at SOG you're still very much in teh middle of the magic! Personally I didn't even use those little Mickey soaps you get at WDW resorts so SoG here I come!!! And of all the moderates we have stayed at (only haven't done CS) PO is our favorite. So that's my vote. :cheer2: Enjoy which ever you choose! :earboy2:

I'd go with SOG. To date, that is the only place I've stayed onsite. And we'll be at POFQ in January...but because I don't have the SOG option this time. My BIL is active military and got us in at SOG the first time we went. This time it's just hubby and I.

The rooms were great and a savings of $200 - I say take it and enjoy a really nice dinner or other things. You won't regret staying at SOG. It was very nice when we were there and has been upgraded since.

SOG gets my vote. The beds are Queens instead of doubles, the bathroom is huge and the resort it's self is beautiful.

Thank you everyone for your input.
We will probably stay at SOG. I like the location and the price.
Maybe the next time we go we can split between the two.

Here is another vote for SoG! We stayed there alst year and will be there again this Friday! The rooms are big and very nicely done. I loved the bathroom and the double sinks. We did not miss anything at all going there and the location is the best! We had absolutely no complaints about our stay and can't wait to be back! Good luck!!!

My vote is for SoG even though I have never stayed there. Here's why. We stayed at POFQ on an adults only trip. When I'm away from the kids. I want some nightlife. POFQ had none. Also, the rooms at POFQ were fine, but I felt claustrophobic as you have to keep your curtains closed (outside walkways) and there are no balconies or patios. Have a great trip wherever you decide to stay.

Do you have a AP? If so check the BRP online. I got rooms at POFQ for Dec 16-22 for right at $100/night including tax. Also, I got water/pool view rooms at AKL in January for $178 per night including tax. If you have an AP or Fl resident seasonal pass, the BRP is definately worth checking into.

I vote for SOG - we have stayed at both and CBR several times as well as the old Dixie Landing several times - SOG is deluxe - the food is much less expensive and better quality than the food courts - the rooms as HUGE, inside doorways and BALCONY - too many plusses to name really, I dont think I will stay anywhere else from now on (our SIL is active military) :)
