We have stayed at both and liked both, but give the edge to PO-FQ.

We like the intimacy of that resort... nothing is really more than 5 minutes away by foot. The views of the Sassagoula River are gorgeous if you have a riverview room. The sidewalks are very romantic at night, and the spa is hardly ever busy. We like the food court better (gotta love those beignets!) and like being the 1st on and 1st off of the busses to and from the parks. If you want to have a taste of PO-R, it is only a 3 minute boatride away, or a 10-15 minute walk.

Have not stayed at POR but we absolutely LOVED FQ. It's just absolutely beautiful. It's small so everything is within a 2 or 3 minute walk, the food court is great - one word.... beignets. We would not hesitate staying there again. I have also heard that POR is in need of renovations. I don't know how true it is but just thought I would pass it along.

in fact, stayed at all moderates and PO-FQ our favorite.
small in comparison to other moderates
first bus stop before stopping at POR
friendliest CM's on property
everything compact
kids LOVE the pool
laundry always available
no question - our favorite (we do love all the moderates)

PO-FQ was the first resort we stayed at. Maybe just for sentimental reasons we love it. We've never stayed at POR, just walked to it from PO-FQ, looked around the grounds and food court, and from what we saw, very happy PO-FQ was our choice. We just love the smaller resort feel. So much so, we're going back in May.

Can you guess what my vote is? We've stayed there 7 times and love it.

Just got back yesterday from POR. Great place. It was our first time at a Disney resort. We loved the fact that you could go between the POR & POFQ so easily and really took advantage of that. I thought POR was very romantic. The grounds are really beautiful (we stayed on the mansion side). Both resorts have the river running through. If you have kids they would really enjoy the pool at POFQ but as an adult I found it a little kitchy (big dragon slide, alligator playing a guitar...) The pool at POR is more adult. I also really enjoyed Boatright's at POR for breakfast. I thought the bridges were romantic places to watch the boats going down river. The bus system was terrific and the boat launch to Downtown Disney is right there. We peaked in the window of a room at POFQ and it looked just like ours at the mansion. POR is a bit more spread out which made for nice walks if you like that. Both resorts are lovely and again, no matter which you stay at you can walk 10 minutes along the river to the other and enjoy those amenities. We did that one night when our hot tub was full.

As you can see, DH and I are huge fans of Dixie (POR). That gets my vote.

I agree completely with eeyore0062. We stayed at POFQ for the first time a few weeks ago and you can check out our photos here: POFQ Photos
Both resorts are very nice. Regardless of which one you stay at, don't miss an opportunity to see Bob "The Piano Man" Jackson perform at the River Roost Lounge at POR.

We have stayed at both and my choice is Riverside!

French Q. wins for pool, landscaping and the check in area.

Riverside wins for rooms, food court, breakfast at Boatrights and the entertainer in the bar.

We found the rooms at FQ to be run down and in need of renovations. During the first week of May we couldn't get a chair around the pool it was so crowded but never had that problem at any of the other resorts we have stayed at. We went to the food court twice and left without buying anything. We ended up at Riverside instead.

Riverside pool isn't anything special in my opinion but since the kids are older that isn't a big deal anymore. The furniture in the mansion room was also nice.

We also like both resorts. Both are lovely resorts. POFQ is easier to get around, and the first on-first off the bus is nice. I don't think you would go wrong with either one. Being a southern gal I love both!

MiJo... just looking at your pictures makes me homesick. We will be in WDW next week, although this time staying off property. We are planning to stop in at PO-FQ for those beignets one morning, though!

Thanks, eeyore0062. I actually had a few more photos but I had accidentally taken them with the camera set on the macro mode and they came out all fuzzy.
Grover, I forgot to mention a couple things in my earlier post that may help you make a decision. There is no full service restaurant at POFQ but it is only a 10 minute walk to Boatwright's at POR. And, there is a horse drawn carriage service that runs between the 2 resorts, at least in the evening. I think it is $30 for 1/2 hour.
We did not find POFQ to be rundown, except for the laundry room, but we only saw room #5324. The resort was very nice, as they all are.
Enjoy choosing!
