POFQ - Likes/Dislikes/Advice

Can anyone give me a little more info on the busses? That is, approx. transit time (your experiences) to MK, Epcot & AK? Also, how long is the boat ride to DTD? How often does the boat run to DTD?

I have been going back and forth between keeping our ressie at WL for Sept. 07, or moving to POFQ. We loved WL this past Sept., had a great experience there and loved the resort. BUT, I can't help but wonder if we would also love POFQ and have a great experience there, while saving about $700!!! Our primary concern is transportation - ease of getting to and from the parks, getting back easily for naptime (2 little ones), and easy tranport for ADR's.

Any additional input on transportation from those who have stayed at POFQ? Any and all comments welcome! THANKS! :thumbsup2

My DH surprised me with a stay at WL for our 25th anniversary. It was nice, but we have returned to POR and FQ 3 times since then. I think the deluxes are beautiful, but I also love the theming of the moderates, and think the value is deffinately worth it. :thumbsup2

My DH and I have stayed at POFQ twice. We loved it both times. Make sure you try the beignets at the food court. We just love strolling through the grounds it's been so peaceful during our trips.

We also liked the boat ride to DTD for some shopping.

As far as travel to parks, we've always rented a car. So our room preference is Bldg 1, even though it's not that much of a walk to any part of this resort.

Apparently, I am in the minority, but I did not like the theming at POFQ. I wouldn't stay there again. I didn't feel like I was any place special. Look at pics (try allears.net) to see if you like the theming of this or any other resort that you are considering. Even when I look at pics today, I just think bor-ing. It is just a personal preference, and I wish that I had looked at more pics before staying there. I think that the pics would have caused me to try another mod. I just read that it is "romantic", but it wasn't anything to me.

Bus times- going to Epcot, MGM and AK, you also stop at 4 busstops at POR, so that takes about 10 minutes, plus the ride times to the park. AK takes FOREVER because in addition to the POR stops, you stop at BB first. Same on the way back- you stop at BB. I want to say that getting to AK took a minimum of 30 minutes from POFQ. I have stayed there twice, in 05 and 06.

MK bus didn't stop at POR- just went straight to MK, which was nice. The bus lines back to POFQ from MK at nighttime were awful. We had to wait probably 45 minutes one night, and the park was still open another few hours.

The other 3 times I have been to WDW, I have been able to stay at Deluxe resorts. POFQ was fine for the trip I took just me and the kids, and the time I went with just my mother, but it wouldn't fly for our now family of 5- the rooms would be too small (even with DD still in a crib).

We did like the pool, the boat to DTD, the foodcourt had some good choices and was handy, loved the compactness of the resort, and I thought the rooms were nicely appointed.

We stayed at POFQ from December 2nd to the 10th and had a wonderful time!! We were in building 4 and it was a very short walk to the food court, pool and bus stop. The food court is decent, I really enjoyed everything I had there. We never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a bus and I only had to stand one time (coming back from Epcot after park close.) The resort seems to be very centrally located, as the transit time to each of the parks only took about 10 - 15 minutes. The exception was AK, which took approximately 20 - 25 minutes. The boats to DD are scheduled for every 20 minutes, and the ride probably took about 15 minutes, although I didn't actually time it. It's lovely though, we thoroughly enjoyed it.

We visited the WL to have lunch at the Whispering Canyon Café and thought the resort was lovely but it probably wouldn't be one we'd choose to stay at. Being from Canada, the resort looks a lot like many of the resorts we have in northern Ontario, so it really doesn't seem special to us. POFQ is themed after New Orleans at Mardi Gras, which we've never experienced, so it was more appealing. I think theming is a very personal thing, and you're the best judge of what your family would prefer. :thumbsup2

One thing's for sure, no matter where you stay you're sure to have a magical time! pixiedust:

We weren't a big fan of POFQ and switched over to Yacht Club after the first day of the trip.

We weren't a big fan of the theming, didn't like the selections at the food court, had a dirty room and we didn't like the outside hallways. :guilty:

We were at POFQ 11/23 thru 12/2, we LOVED it! We are planning on going back and will stay at POFQ. I loved the compact size of the resort. We were in bld 7 allll the way at the end and the walk was not bad to anything!

We had rented a car but still found ourselves using the busses alot because it was just easier sometimes. So, I would say we didn't find anything wrong with the bus system.

We will be going to POFQ in May & can't wait. We checked it out this past May & knew we had to stay there. We have stayed at WL & loved it :cool1: The boat to MK is so nice & the resort it just beautiful. I do want to stay there again-but the extra $$$$. Almost $1000 more for WL. Can't really say if it is worth it. Besides it is nice to try new things. Have a great trip!!!!

We also loved it! We liked being able to walk over to Port Orleans...but then we loved going back to POFQ! We liked that is was small, but beautiful!

We were at POR in May, and unless I had fallen asleep, we didn't stop at BB either going to or coming from AK. I didn't time how long it took us to get anywhere, but I thought the buses ran very efficiently considering the number of people they transport. So maybe someone can tell me if I'm right or wrong about the bus to AK, or maybe it's not always the same.

Loved POFQ. Went there with DH last year and it was so charming we fell in love. We walked every morning along the river and it was so peaceful it was hard to get used to (we had left the 3 kids at home). The decor of the rooms were very nice and mousekeeping was nothing but excellent. The boat ride was so convienant to Downtown Disney and it made a nice change from the buses. DD15 and I are coming down in Feb 2007 to stay at POP but that is only because I could not get a ressie at POFQ. I was so disappointed. But I guess the important thing is that we'll be at Disney regardless of where we're staying. :woohoo:

so excited....
will be at pofq from 1-21-1-25 and then pop for 2 nights...

wanted to try a mod and a value...
i'm sure i'll miss the queen beds though...

I really like POFQ. My husband does not like going to WDW :earseek:, but when he goes with me, we do POFQ...it is his favorite as well.

Here is why we like it:
Resort is small and intimate
Everything is close
You are the first to be picked up and dropped off at POFQ (they share busses with POR)
The CMs there are always nice and super helpful
Check-in and check-out are a breeze
Bus service is great

You will face the same weather heading to the parks. ;)

We love it also. The down side can be the outside hallways. Several years ago we were there and it was in the 20's. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I share your feelings for POFQ. Shared transportation, no sit down restaurant, small pool and lack of amenities. But there are plenty of resorts for people to like at WDW.

aalan dislikes: only the mk has a dedicated fq only bus...[/QUOTE said:
What did you dislike about the "dedicated French Quarter only bus" service to the Magic Kingdom?
