Well, I did it! I've been waiting for FL resident discounts and nothing yet so I decided I better go ahead and book something and hope for discounts later. We were debating between AKL and POFQ. We really, really want to try AKL but the cheapest rate I could get was $215.10 per night with a AAA discount for the standard room. That's just more than I want to spend on a hotel room. So, we went for POFQ for $122 per night with the AAA discount.

So, tell me about POFQ. We've never stayed there and I know nothing about it. Details please! How's the pool? The food court? Is there a restaurant? How are the rooms? Is there a coffee maker in the rooms? I want to know it all!

Im booked there the end of may/beg of june as well

here is what I know about it, mostly thru research

they have a food court, but not a restaurant. However, its basically connected to POR, so they use that as their "sit down" restaurant...boatwrights. I guess they used to have one, but closed it when the two resorts became more like one

the pool is great. This Ive actually seen first hand when we stayed at POR years ago (dixie landings at the time). Its just one pool, but a large side with a big dragon whose tongue is the sliding board. Kids seemed to love it. This is the only pool, however, when I called they said 6 pools....so you must have access to POR theme pool and 5 quiet pools.

I believe if you want a coffeemaker, you have to request one

this is probably the smallest resort at WDW, which was a big draw to us. less walking to bus stop, food court, etc.

since all the rooms are now renovated, I cant see any problems in this area

as Ive never actually walked it, I have no idea. when we stayed at POR (dixie landings) we really didnt walk around the resort much, spent most time in the parks. I know that POR is fairly spread out

here is a link to a map.....it shows the two resorts together. POFQ is the bottom section (kind of a purplish color)

Was $122 before or after tax with AAA discount? We have always loved POFQ and I was thinking about flying in a day early to stay there a night before moving to OKW. Thanks.

It was before tax. I'm still hoping for FL Res discounts to get it even cheaper but if not, I can live with $122. I know last year they had moderates at like $74 with FL Res discounts which are usually about the same as AP discounts. That would be fabulous! Or if AKL is cheap enough(under $150 per night) we might switch over there.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the link! That was very helpful but it does appear to be kind of far. Anybody know if it's walkable to the sit down restaurant at POR from POFQ?

Also, which pool is best?

Thanks!

It's probably a good 15 minute walk from POFQ to the POR restaurant. It's a very pretty walk along the river though. You could also take the bus as it stops at POFQ and then heads over to POR (I'm assuming they'll have the same shared route and service as before 9/11). Finally, if you time it right, you could take the Downtown Disney boat service -- as it comes from DD, it will stop at POFQ and then on to POR.

We always stayed at POFQ before it was closed down. It is my favorite resort. I like it better than WL. My 9 yo DD now prefers POR because of the pool and playground (the playground at POR is definitely better than POFQ's).

POR's foodcourt is bigger and a bit better, too.

We'll be at POFQ in April and I just can't wait. With the rooms renovated and fresh, it'll be wonderful.:Pinkbounc

Can someone tell me if they would recommend adding Concierge to our Deluxe room reservation for Sept. and has anyone ever reserved deluxe and gotten bumped up to concierge at arrival? We have pool view reserved. Are there refrigerators in the deluxe rooms? We have stayed in a standard savannah view and once saw a deluxe but did not notice much difference in room quality. Does concierge give nicer toiletries or robes? Thanks for any input!
