I just read a review by sleepingbeauty  Bad for those with Celiac.

Now I do not know which moderate to stay at who can handle our dietary needs ? :confused3

Pepper Market in the CSR Hands down the WORST experience of our two trips. We ate there 3-4 times and each time was awful. The manager, hosts, and wait staff just refused to help us with our dietary restrictions, and the chefs were just too busy and uneducated to provide us safe meals (for example, handed me bacon that was sitting in a bowl of bread, went to put the batter in a gluten cooking waffle iron, stuff like that). And the rudeness! You guys wouldn't believe it. I am a soft spoken small woman with my young children, and when I asked for help, I was treated as if I were the worst insult to walk through the door. One woman actually threw her hands up in the air and stormed off, shaking her head, when I asked her where I could find something. The manager barked a rude command at a host, totally ignoring me, when I asked him for help with our allergies. This restaurant is not run by Disney and it shows. I will not go back to this resort again, and it's too bad because it's lovely, beautiful and fun.

From another reviewer...

The chef at the Port Orleans French Quarter was very very nice and cooked my wife a very good chicken and salad lunch, and gave her a WICKED good gluten free cheesecake. He was super, and will make stuff to order with any advance noticed (he offered gluten free pancakes for breakfast, but it was our last day).

So should we stay at POFQ instead ?

I can't help you with your dietary issues but I can tell you that POFQ is a great resort! Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful - I'm sure if you give them some advance notice they could work with you. Good luck!

We were at POFQ a couple of years ago and had a good experience at the Food Court. My wife has Celiac, and we ate there a couple of times during our week. From what I remember, anytime we went in, we talked with a manager who connected us with a chef. And yes, they offered pancakes for my wife as well.

You could always call ahead to the resort and ask to speak to someone about the food and what would be available. That would also give them a heads up about when you would be there so they could be ready.

Disney was great for eating Gluten Free, just make sure the reservations you have note a gluten free requirement, and ask to speak with a manager at any counter service locations.

Good luck and have fun.

TCSMU - thank you so much. We will be staying for 2 weeks. Our DS is a bit disappointed witht he POFQ pool (he is used to deluxe resort pools).
But with the economy- a moderate resort is in our budget, not a deluxe.

I am so glad POFQ CS Chef could make items for our DD.

I was even thinking of bringing Bob's Red Mill GF Cornbread mix with us. I will find out if the POFQ Chef could make it (we will pay extra). It only needs 1.5 cups milk, 1/3 cup melted butter and 2 eggs. Mix it up, pour into a buttered 9" by 9" pan, bake @ 375 degrees F. for 20 minutes. Very easy and fast to make.
We could store the GF cornbread in our POFQ room refrigerator for our DD. It would last about 5 days in a zip lock bag. Great for her in the AM (just get some butter or jam from the POFQ CS in the AM)

I think we will stay at POFQ and our DS will get over the pool - or use POR's.
POR's menu seems to have some GF items on it too, such as the Carving Station, 5 - 10 p.m., with Fresh Sliced Beef or Turkey served with chef's daily selection of accompaniments.
Fresh Tossed Salads. 11 a.m.-10 p.m. - Customize your salad by choosing from a variety of ingredients, including beef or chicken $8.19
And possibly if they have GF pasta , the Pizza and Pasta Shop, served 11 a.m. - midnight.

I think the main difference here is that CSR's Pepper Market is actually run by a third party (its not Disney) while the rest of the food courts POR/POFQ are handled by disney and therefore disney chefs. From what I have seen, the disney chefs are great at modifying meals for those with allergies/special food needs. I have no idea what the record is for Pepper Market's parent company.

My best friend is on a strict gluten-free diet, so I understand your frustration.

Have you considered one of the DVC resorts? I know that they are more expensive; but, the full size kitchen will make food preparation easier. The rack rates for the villas are quite expensive, but you can rent points from a member at about $10 a point (which means a 1 bedroom villa for a week in Adventure season would be about $220 a night). I think you might find that the savings from eating a couple of meals a day in the room makes up for the additional cost.

Just a thought.

that was me who wrote that review - which was one of many BAD pepper market experiences... BUT I would not write off CSR over it! Even though I said we wouldn't go back, we are going back to the resort...just not the dreaded Pepper Market.

This time we're planning our own quick food in the room breakfasts as well as more ADRs elsewhere. We will enjoy breakfasts at Crystal Palace, Ohana, Akerhaus and so on. We love the dining in WDW because of our allergies. It is SO wonderful there! So my advise about CSR with dietary restrictions is to go, but don't plan on eating there. They were really that bad. Even when I could get a chef to try to help us, the chef was just so uneducated on what he was doing that he contaminated our food and the only reason I know that before Bean got it in her mouth is because it's an open cooking area so I could see what he was doing.

So, CSR is great, as a resort. The pool and playground are fun, the buses were prompt and easy to use, the landscaping is stunning. Just the restaurant is bad for those with our type of allergies. I was really surprised they didn't have ANY milk substitute at all too, but that is another story...

POFQ looks great, though! I would like to stay there sometime!
