In an attempt to consolidate the threads regarding the POFQ closing, here's one that has the basic info and links.

PO resorts will undergo an extensive remodel and rehab over the next 2 years. Effective 4/4, WDW is no longer taking ressies for POFQ and the resort will close in early May. PO-R will remain open and areas will be closed in different phases down the road but the resort itself will stay open during the remodel.

Here's the story from the Orlando Sentinel:

Here is the original post here on the DIS:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=352438

Many here on the DIS have been called and some have called the relocation are themselves. I personally was offered a choice of many different deluxe resort to upgrade, WL or AKL for about $10 more per night and other deluxes for about $30 more per night. If you would like to call the relocation number if you already have ressies at POFQ the number to call is 1-407-939-7919. I said before that I wouldn't post the direct line but it has been posted elsewhere so I figured it was not a big deal at this point. :)

Some here on the DIS have other info on the closing. kinggoofy has received an email from Bob Jackson (the Piano Man @ PO-R) and is asking for those who are interested in keeping Bob onstage @ PO-R read the following post:

If you are interested in POFQ beignets, then check out khawks thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=352521
One member of the DIS has been called (back in response to a call they made to the CRO about the closing) and you can read about that here:http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=352774
Also, here is the link to the Intercot boards where one of the TAs was reporting the upgrade info:http://www.intercot.com/boards/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=8;t=003752

I hope this info helps!

I called Disney this morning after hearing about the POFQ closing for renovations. I had just switched from the All Star Movies to the POFQ last Wednesday or Thursday. I spoke with a very nice woman, and she told me as of right now, I could switch to another moderate or downgrade back to the All Star Movies without any penalties.

I told her that I just didn't know what to do. I told her that I decided to spend the extra money for the POFQ because it's my favorite resort, and I've stayed there four times. I told her I had stayed at all of the moderate resorts, and the POFQ was the only one I didn't have problems with during my stay. I again told her that I just didn't know what to do, and that I needed time to think about it. She told me she would make a note in my reservation, and have someone call me back later.

She also told me that there should be informatio about possible upgrades by Wednesday or Thursday, so hopefully that will pan out. I wouldn't mind paying for an upgrade if it was reasonable. I guess for now, I'm just going to try to have a couple of options in mind if they do offer upgrades, and if they don't, I'll probably save the money and go back down to the All Star Movies, and hope for a good code rate for a deluxe at a later time.

So, I guess I'm just in a wait and see mode for the time being.

Thanks for this helpful thread. I don't have ressies at POFQ until December, but I'm hoping they will be pretty quick about calling people.

So bummed right now! I really wanted to stay at FQ again next trip....

I was booked for FQ May 1-4, with the 4 day Wonder cruise May 4-8. I love the FQ and booked my cruise around when that resort was available. Dis contacted my ta this morning (4/9) and we accepted an upgrade to the Poly for $30 more per night. Since this vacation has been planned for over a year and has already cost a ton of $, it was unsettling to be making changes so close to departure. But we're hoping for the best and are excited to stay at the Poly for the first time.

My reservation is for 5/2-3 so I expect an early call. Does anyone know if they call in the evening or just during business hours. There is no one available at home during the day and no machine. Got suggestions?

I have ressies later in the year for POR. I was concerned that they might get round to POR when we arrive. Also I chose that resort so I could use both FQ & POR pools. I spoke to a CM who said that it would take 2 years to complete the renovations so not to worry about them starting at POR this year, though nothing is definite and I would get a call if there was anything to report. Problem is there is 5 in one of the two rooms we have booked. so it would cost way above our budget if we had to upgrade to a deluxe for an undiscounted rate.:(

This question may have been asked, but the FQ threads are getting so long, I’m getting lost. My ressie at FQ is a water view. If they do offer a deluxe upgrade to me, would it also be a water view room?

I asked the same question on one of the many FQ threads {can't recall which one now} Two posters told me no the deluxe resort room would be a standard view. But to be sure I guess we should ask when they call us. Hope this helps a little though.

"So based on what she said I would think if you stayed with another mod and AP rates came out it would make sense that they could be applied. The deluxe AP issue would be another whole issue and who knows? I guess it would not hurt to ask when they call."

I believe you're correct as far as a moderate to moderate switch. As far as what would happen if you upgraded to a deluxe...

If they do offer deluxe upgrades, once you make the move to a deluxe any AP rate that came out would be a discount on the deluxe rack rate. I doubt seriously that any AP rate would be better than what you would be paying for a moderate +upgrade fee. I don't believe they would allow any AP discount on the moderate, then charge the upgrade fee on the AP rate. My bet is that if and when any AP rates come out, POFQ will not be included. I would think they've probably already removed POFQ from any type of discount at this point, AP, code or DC.

"Two posters told me no the deluxe resort room would be a standard view."

That's how it worked last year with the CBR closing. Deluxe upgrades were standard view.

peachgirl, when you say that PO/FQ will be excluded from any AP rates that come out you don't mean anyone who held a reservation at FQ is excluded from that discount do you? Even if you are now booked into another moderate? I'm not clear about what you meant. The resort itself is closed as of 5/3 so I would assume no one would be thinking to use an AP or code to book there. Sorry for not understanding. It's late and it has been a very long day.

That's ok, I may not be understanding what you're asking!;) It's just my opinion, but I'll try and explain what I meant...

I only meant that I don't think you'd be able to apply an AP discount to your current POFQ reservation, then switch that reservation to a deluxe. I didn't intend to say that guests of POFQ wouldn't be eligible for discounts at the resort they moved to, but that POFQ resort probably wouldn't be included in any rates they release.

In other words, if you moved to CBR and the AP rates came out, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get the AP rate for CBR as long as there was availability. And as I said, if they offered upgrades to deluxes, while the same thing applies, I doubt the AP rate would be less than what someone paid based on a moderate rate + a nominal upgrade fee.

Then again, I could be totally off base.;)

A friend of mine got a call fro CRO, and they left a message on her answering machine telling her that POFQ was closing for refurbishment and that her reservation had been moved to Coronado Springs. I think that's a bit rude - they didn't wait to talk to her or anything, no mention of other options, just told her that the reservation had been moved, period.

Needless to say, she's a bit upset and will be calling them back.

I'll post when she lets me know what happened.

DisneyFreaks - She arrives I think sometime around the 10th of May. Her case may be a little different though - she had an overflow reservation from Shades of Green. But I don't know if that had anything to do with it - I mean, when she got the overflow to begin with, they offered her many choices.

Wow, definitely not a good way to handle this! I can't believe they switched her without checking first. Even if all they're doing is a moderate to moderate offer they still ought to be giving options, not telling people where they're going.

Ok, I know I'm not the smartest kid on the block; however, I do have a quick question that I would like to ask all the Disney veterans out there who have been through upgrades before.... I have already booked my vacation for the POR for next Feb. I know that is several months away...however, what does/will this rehab mean to me? I do not wish to stay at a resort that is undergoing construction or demolition during my stay. Will the rehab "schedule" be posted to know exactly what areas will be refurbished at any one given time? Should I just wait to see what happens or go ahead and plan on switching my ressies? Any help would be of great help.

Thanks,
Sherri

Well... here's what happened, she called Disney and spoke with a supervisor. She said the rumors of upgrades that are out on the Dis boards are untrue and was very emphatic about it. She said no upgrades would be offered at all. The only choices will be Coronado Springs and Carribean Beach and that's it. They are not offereing Riverside either. She said Riverside will be down for
refurbishment as well................ all of Port Orleans, not just French
Quarter will be down for 2 years. So she took Carribean Beach.

That's all she told me. But I know that I read on Intercot that someone had called and spoken with a cast member who said that they 'thought' that there would be upgrades but that they wouldn't be in the system or available until later this week. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, because my own reservation is the 15-19th and I haven't been called yet.

However, I figure that eventually I'd like to stay at all of the resorts at least once, and I've never stayed at CBR, so, if this is the time that I do, it's probably not that big of a deal. It looks like a cool place.

I LIVE IN NEW YORK WHERE WE ARE JUST RECOVERING FROM SEVERE ICE STORM, NO ELECTRIC IN 5 DAYS.....SO WHEN I GOT ON LINE THIS MORNING AND SAW THIS THREAD, I FREAKED OUT!!

WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE STAYING AT POFQ FROM MAY 15-MAY 22.
I IMMEDIATELY CALLED DISNEY, NO WAITING ABOUT IT. I HAVE PLANNED THIS TRIP FOR OVER 2 YEARS, NOT TAKING ANY CHANCES!! I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD A CHOICE OF CORONADO SPRINGS OR CBR. I SELECTED CBR, BECAUSE I ORIGINALLY PICKED POFQ BECAUSE OF THE THEMING FOR MY TWO CHILDREN, AND THIS ONE SEEMED MORE AIMED TOWARDS KIDS.

THE CM TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD "EXPECTED" SOME UPGRADE PACKAGES TO BE IN THEIR SYSTEM TODAY, BUT THEY AREN'T AVAILABLE YET. SHE HAD HEARD THAT MAYBE BY FRIDAY. SHE ALSO TOLD ME THAT IN THE PAST, WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED, UPGRADES HAVE USUALLY BEEN OFFERED ANYWHERE FROM $10-30 PER NIGHT FOR A DELUXE BUT THAT THEY WERE LIMITED. SHE EMPHASIZED THAT THIS WAS IN THE PAST, NOT NECESSARILY WHAT WILL HAPPEN THIS TIME. SHE TOLD ME TO KEEP CALLING AND CHECKING TO SEE IF UPGRADES WERE AVAILABLE.

MY CHILDREN ARE 5 AND 9 AND THEY HAVE BEEN ANTICIPATING THIS TRIP FOR "FOREVER!" WE HAVE PICTURES OF THE DRAGON POOL ON OUR FRIDGE, OUR SCREENSAVER, ETC. I DON'T EVEN WANT TO TELL THEM WHAT HAS HAPPENED. I AM SURE THEY WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME REGARDLESS, HOWEVER, I AM SURE THAT DISNEY NEW ABOUT THIS "RENOVATION" WAY BEFORE NOW. I DON'T THINK THEY HANDLES THIS VERY WELL. IMHO.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL IN YOUR TRANSFERS............................ I AM SURE WE WILL ALL HAVE A GREAT TIME REGARDLESS!!!!!!!!

We have been thinking about PO/RS but the only section we like is AB. They won't guarantee us that will they? Not even in a situation like this? I limp pretty bad because of this tendon injury but if worse comes to worse I suppose we could always drive to the food court.

I don't think you'll have a problem at all getting them to guarantee a location if you request it because of a medical problem. I've never done this so I don't know if they require any kind of proof, but I've never heard that they do. Still, I'd check on that detail.

If I had the problem you describe and they were switching me to another resort, I would simply insist that they guarantee me a convenient room location. I don't believe they'll give you a minute's trouble about it.

Just a fyi....the previous post about absolutely no upgrades is exactly what CBR guests were told last year in the beginning, then WDW gave some upgrades. That's certainly no guarantee that they will this time, just thought I'd toss that in. While it may have seemed that the deluxe upgrades were offered to everyone, they actually were extremely limited. I have an idea as to why one would get an upgrade and another wouldn't, but since it's just a wild guess I'll leave that one to others!;)

I had reservations at POFQ in 2001 and was automatically moved to POR. No one told me. I just happened to call to confirm my reservation and found out. I was quite upset and they moved me to AKL at no additional cost. I also have reservations in May and I have talked to David in relocations and told him I wanted to be moved to the Beach Club at no additional cost. I haven't heard back yet but will let you know how it goes. Since this is my second time, I am planning to be quite pushy to get an upgrade.
