I'm not big into poetry either, but I loved her words of wisdom, especially any time she talked on Oprah.
"Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better."
And someone else already quoted the shortened version of this piece of advice:
"People always show you how they are in the first 20 minutes of meeting them. our problem is that we don't like to believe what we see. [What we think that says about them, what that makes us for thinking such bad things of other people. "How could I think that person is a monster? I must be a bad person for thinking that."] When someone shows you who they are, believe them, the first time.
My favorite one, which I found in beautifully calligraphy on the cover of a greeting card and have it framed, since I am an artist among other things:
"Not everything you do is going to be a masterpiece, but you get out there and you try and sometimes it really happens. The other times you're just stretching your soul."
Rest in peace Maya Angelou. Thank you for all your wisdom. You will be missed.
