Poem for our troops (warning: tissue alert)

The following poem was written by Kendra Robinson. Kendra is the daughter of an Army NCO and student at Rose State College in Midwest City, Oklahoma. She wrote and read the following as part of a going away ceremony for troops at their base. It was sent to me by a buddy on the email list used by my BIL. Kendra has granted permission for it to be shared but please include her name on it if you pass it along.


"I Talked To God Last Night"

I talked to God last night
And asked him to protect our soldiers during the fight.
I also told the Lord that I was not scared
Because I know our men and women are very well prepared.
No matter if it is one weekend a month or every day of the year
They are ready whenever the threat is ever so near.
Most have trained for this day all of their life
And will face that heart-breaking task of saying goodbye to
Their families, children, husband, and/or wife.
These soldiers have never hidden from the call
And they would never hesitate to help a fellow comrade if he or
she should ever fall.
Our freedom would not exist if they didn't stick together as a
team,
So many great events in history would have gone unseen
And Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. might have never been able to
realize his dream.
God has a special plan for these courageous men and women
here tonight,
He will keep his gaze on them, protecting them with all of his
might.
I personally want to say thank-you for making all that is
Wrong with the world turn into right,
And I promise to keep you all in my prayers every single night.
Another thanks goes out to the parents of these dear soldiers,
May we all do whatever we can to help some of the weight lift
off of your shoulders.
Thank you to the husbands and the wives
Who have given endless support though these very trying
times.
And thank you to the children who are so selfless and who are
forced to understand
That their mom or dad will be protecting them in a far off,
foreign land.
Now, at the end of my prayer God directed me to 2 Timothy
Chapter 4, Verse 7
Where it stated, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished
the race, I have kept the faith."
And then he said very clearly too always remember that verse
number 7
Because these were all soldiers in his army
And when the time does come
They will all have a special place in heaven!!
