Reposted from the Disneyland board, as it applies to more Disney fans :-)

Hello everyone! Right before Covid hit my husband and I were seriously toying with the idea of starting a YouTube channel and podcast about travel, with a focus on Disney.

Well Covid postponed all that.

But in the meantime we have been doing lots and lots of research. I love Disneyland podcasts and YouTube channels, but I was curious... who else does? And what do you look for in a Disney podcast? What do you, as a Disney fan, want to hear about?

Are there any podcasts (or youtube channels) you highly recommend? I listen to, and watch, a lot but am always interested in finding more!

Thanks!!!

The folks that create this web site have a podcast, The Dis. I found it to be the just about the best.

Disney Dish with Jim Hill and Len Testa are also very good. They are more focused on 1-2 subject vs. The Dis.

Curiously, while I listen to about two dozen podcasts regularly, not a single one of them is Disney related.

I've listened to it a few times; I tend to focus more on Disneyland (and general Disney); I miss the Disneyland episodes The Dis used to have for sure.

Haven't tried out Disney Dish yet; thank you for the recommendation.

I’m actually in the market for a Disney podcast that is child/youth friendly. I was thinking we could listen to it on the drive to Disney in a couple of weeks!

A lot of Disney podcasts seem geared at parents and children; we are focusing more on adults, though still appropriate for kiddos of course.

I do think we will be focusing on Disneyland more than Disneyworld. And won't have much to binge in a couple weeks! But if we get a few episodes up, I can let you know :-)

What kind of content would you be interested in?

Can I ask what you DO listen to? Like, what makes you want to listen to a podcast?

I listen to a lot of news and news-adjacent stuff, like Up First and Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me from NPR. I listen to podcasts for YouTube channels I follow, some pop-culture related stuff, a couple Christian podcasts, some general knowledge/education stuff.

What keeps me interested in the podcasts I subscribe to is a combination of the content and the interactions between the hosts. There's a few I have stopped listening to over the years, like Marc Maron, This American Life, etc., partly because I started skipping a lot of episodes because of the amount of time it takes to listen to everything I listen to. There were some podcasts I tried but gave up early because I didn't like the hosts (they came off as annoying or know-it-alls), like some Star Wars and Doctor Who podcasts. I used to listen to the DIS Unplugged, but they could get kind of nasty, and I wasn't enjoying that.

Thanks! This is great information! I find so much relies on the interactions and dynamics between hosts :-)

A little more details on the hosts: It helps when it's a group that has together for awhile and you can tell they are actual friends. Like, The RELEVANT Podcast has been around since 2006, and two of the hosts have known each other since college. Josh and Chuck on Stuff You Should Know have worked together since '08. Dear Hank & John are brothers.

It also helps to get some diversity: the reason I never kept a Doctor Who or Star Wars podcast long was because it was also nerdy middle-aged white dudes. And I get enough of that on twitter and reddit.

That's fair. I just started listening to Lattes with Leia and it's nice having a Star Wars podcast from young women :) And a recent episode featured women from Sisters with Sabers; so nice for some diversity.

I do like that connection. With all of my favourite (non-Disney) podcasts, the reason I love them and listen is the crazy dynamic between the hosts.

What do you like in the pop-culture ones you do listen to? News, analysis, casual conversations...?

It's mostly all reviews and casual conversation. SiftPop does a review of a movie, and at least some of the times the two hosts have differing opinions on the movie or show. Pop Culture Happy Hour has four hosts I really like, but I think it's a little nebulous to try to pin down what they talk about. Sometimes it's a review, something it's an in-depth analysis of a certain piece of pop culture. RELEVANT is a God/Faith/Culture podcast, where they talk about pop culture and political news from a protestant Christian perspective, and they have an interview with someone within pop-culture or the Christian subculture. SinCast has recurring segments, like recommending or warning content, unrelated rants (like, traffic), or they do a theme like "the movies of Keanu Reeves".

I think I want to try out Lattes with Leia :)

I'm liking it. They only post once a month or so, but they do in-depth discussion of a Star Wars element from a female perspective. Like, one episode they talked all about droids, another time about the idea of "home" in Star Wars, and so on.

Also, thanks. That helps.

I know what I like in podcasts, but I am always curious trying to pinpoint the elements that others like, especially in trying to decide what ours will look like. :)

Thanks!
