I am leaning towards going over to do it on December 20th, my last full day in Florida.

My experience is at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, they charge for parking regardless staying at the hotel or just visiting.

Parking Fees at Gaylord Palms listed on their website is:
$12/day - Self Parking
$20/Day - Valet Parking

Thanks Tracey, I thought we would have to pay to park :thumbsup2 I'm just looking forward to seeing the hotel it looks amazing!

Happy Monday folks! :wave2:

Woo hoo 900 posts :goodvibes

:cheer2: congrats! :cheer2:

For those interested, Gaylord Palms has released their Holiday Happenings including the Information about ICE.

Thx a mint for that Tracey :thumbsup2 If MVMCP, really only allows admission at 7pm (in which case the partygoers will miss the castle lighting :confused3), then we might head over to Ice on the way back from the port.

I'll give it time to work itself out and not worry about it yet. Still have to order my MVMCP tix this wk :santa:

cheers,
:flower3:

Morning!

I am not up alone this morning. Kaitlyn is up with me. She got new retainers yesterday after losing hers while we were in Disney in June so her mouth was hurting. But I think the real reason is that she has to go to school today. Our HS has upper classman act as mentors for the freshman class coming in. This is her first year doing this in HS. I am very glad she volunteered to do this.

Of course, providing transportation to HS today is going to mess with my schedule. Oh well!

Have a great day!

when does school start??? before september?

Tomorrow:scared1:

We start earlier so that the HS has 90 days of school completed before the HS Assessments which are usually towards the end of January. This also means if we have no snow then we get out early. I think it will be May 26 this year with no snow.

by the way, my sister just wrote that i got a pin code postcard for free dining in december - though i thought it was available to the general public...so i don't know why i would need a special code...

anyway, i'm reconsidering my stay at the dolphin....i have to go crunch some numbers...

Hershey Park is fully a theme park.

Started out (back in history) as pretty gardens for the workers. Hershey was very much a "company town" where workers were "taken care of" in ways that don't happen now.

from Wikipedia

Early years
In 1903, Milton S. Hershey, founder of the Hershey Chocolate Company, surveyed a site along Spring Creek that would be suitable for his park. Hershey Park opened on April 24, 1907, with a baseball game played on the new athletic field. The beautifully landscaped park was an ideal spot for picnicking, boating, and canoeing. Vaudeville and theatre productions were performed on a rustic bandstand and pavilion.

A merry-go-round was installed and opened on July 4, 1908. A 1,500-seat tiered amphitheatre was built next to the pavilion. The entrance sign proclaimed, “Ye who enter here leave dull cares behind.”

The park was expanded in 1909 with the addition of a tennis court, two bowling alleys, a large band shell, and a photography gallery. Guests could also enjoy a relaxing ride on the Scenic Railroad. In July 1912, a carousel manufactured by Willy H. Dentzel of the Dentzel Carousel Company in Philadelphia was added to the park. The carousel was 50 feet (15 m) in diameter and featured 53 carved animals that included lions, bears, giraffes, pigs, rabbits, an ostrich, goats and deer along with two chariots. The carousel was described as the “most magnificent and up-to-date carousel in this part of the country as well as one of the largest.”

Thanks for the info Lynne :thumbsup2 It sounds like they both had the idea that the company should care for the workers, but you guys did it bigger and better  I'm sure you'd find Cabury World and the town quaint!

Good morning everyone - got a new starter at work so I was busy before 8am - too early!

where i grew up in suburban detroit, the schools started right after labor day..
i don't know if that's still true.....

I think it is determined by local jurisdictions - my school district has chosen the schedule that allows HS students to complete the course work before taking the assessment test. Other schools in the state chose to start after Labor Day.

i still feel their pain!!

(it's summer - cruel and unusual punishment to be in school!!!!!!)

When I was growing up we always started around the first Wednesday after the 20th of the month of August. We got out no later than the 20th of May, so we had a full 3 month Summer Vacation.

Today, kids are lucky if they get more than two months off for Summer Break. One School system in our area got exactly two months off - they finished on June 18th and they start back tomorrow on the 18th of August.

Good Morning Everyone. Another HOT day today, then some rain comes in to cool it off by 10 degrees.

Here, our schools don't start until after Labor Day....but then our kids go to school through the middle of June.

Morning. Something must be wrong with my internal thermometer. I woke up shivering this morning. Shivered through my shower and morning routine. Finally warmed up on the way to work with the heat on full blast. Maybe its a sign I need to move about 1100 miles south.....:scratchin

Morning everyone. Still hot- but they say less sticky as the day goes on. We shall see.

Same here. Summer camps are still going strong. My kids are counselor/life guards and they still have 2.5 more weeks of camp left.
School usually starts Wednesday or Thursday after Labor Day and ends mid-late June, depending on how many snow days they have to use. This year they didn't get out until June 23rd and they lost all but 2 days of their Spring Break as well.

I am thinking I need about 900 miles south. :)

I am thinking I need about 900 miles south. :)

I learned this past weekend in Hershey (since I stayed with my friends instead of a hotel) how difficult it can be living with more than one person.

Seven adults and one bathroom is two bathrooms too few, in my opinion. That being said, I'm sure we can find some estate with mulitple buildings....Or there is a resort for sale across from the Target on 192 between Kissimmee and WDW...nice bright villas. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

There are about a dozen or so, we could start our own real DIS community......our own Golden Oak (just a little outside of the property line though).
