Pocket Knife

Scissors: cut off tags, cut open snack food bags, cut open plastic bubble around toys, trim nails, cut out things from papers/magazines/coupons. This is what I use the most.
toothpick
tweezers
eyeglass screwdriver
corkscrew
Philips and flathead screwdrivers: for toys, electronics, particularly battery compartments
magnifying glass: DH is getting old:)
bottle opener
can punch opener
knife: cutting fruit and cheese, dividing things like fudge
pen: my new one has a tiny ballpoint pen
etc

For most people, their "pocket knife" is anything but.

This is quite true. LOL. Normally when I do have a pocket knife I use just about every item on that gadget but the knife! Which is usually too small to do anything. Mind you I only ever take the thing camping. Or dig it out at home for one of the accessories.

Do you know if they make these gadgets minus the knife? That way you could probably keep and have all the other useful items at your finger tips!

This isn't the same ... but Universal would not let DH carry in a very tiny pocket knife (he had forgotten it was in his pocket or he would have left it in the car). It definitely wasn't big enough to hurt anyone, but I think it is easier for them to have a blanket "no knife" rule than get into measuring and arguments with guests. I'd definitely say leave it behind unless he's either willing to give it up at security or run it back to the car ... a huge pain at Disney lots since access to your car at minimum typically involves a tram. And after recent events, it wouldn't surprise me if security has gotten much more strict about what's allowed in the parks.

I agree - it is easier to just have a blanket rule.

Here are a few options without a knife.

Leatherman Style PS - $25 on Amazon - small and light, about the size of my thumb.

Leatherman Leap - a little larger and designed for kids to grow into, it comes without the (rather innocuous) knife blade installed - $40 on Amazon.

SOG Powerlock Traveler - $65 on Amazon - larger and bulkier, more of a hand tool.

As I mentioned previously, I carried the Style PS at the top along with the Victorinox below into the parks every day with no problem during our trip last month.

Thanks! I would get so much use out of the SOG Powerlock Traveler I think... It just needs a corkscrew to be everything I would ever need. LOL

I don't know of a way to get a corkscrew without also getting a knife blade in just one tool. The Leatherman Juice CS4 is smaller and lighter than the SOG, and the blade is 2.27 inches. It's about $60 on Amazon. I wouldn't risk getting something that costs that much confiscated, but for anywhere else it's a nice combination of capabilities that you can easily carry in a pocket.

All you people who carry a pocket knife, have any of you taken one in through the metal scanner.

Husband who hate to have to leave his behind in the room. It's amazing how often he uses it.

As you can see, the discussion has drifted a bit. Do you (and your DH) have the information you need?

You can get a cheaoer model at walmart. I have a SOG key knife on my keys and I do not carry my keys to park.

Just went through security at Epcot 15 minutes ago and we were selected for metal detectors. As I was walking over to that area from bag check I realized I had my pocket knife clipped to my pocket. Laid it on table in front of security officer and said "guess I'll me making a trip back to the car". He took it, opened it, and held it up to his ID badge. Blade was probably 1/32nd shorter than badge but he said just put it in your pocket and don't take it out. My knife is a Spyderco Paramilitary 2, blade length is 3 and 7/16.

It's the last 7/16th of an inch that made it "iffy." ;)

Glad he was accommodating to you!

Yeah. Not a cheap knife you can just give up. Good thing it wasn't a Police.

It never hurts to have a mini-toolkit with you (which is what a Swiss "knife" really is).

Fix a loose screw on a stroller
Clean up a hangnail
Tweeser out a splinter (or in my case a bee stinger)
Fix the clasp on a lanyard (using the small pliers)
Open those gosh darn heat sealed plastic packages
Cleanly snip the tags off that delicate princess dress

The list is long and varied.

I carry a ton of stuff in the parks, and have never needed a mini tool kit.

Just leave it in the room safe. If you need to open a tough package you bought while at the park ask a Cm in a store, they usually have scissors and can open things for you. There's really no need for a pocket knife in the park.

I'm not sure I get your point, People bring in all sorts of stuff to the parks that I find useless but I would never say, I don't need that so you don't either.

Saying it may be risky to try and bring something like that into the parks now. And if you need to cut tags off or get a stinger out, there are other ways to do so.

True, there are always other options. Some like the convenience of having a small pocket knife or multitool with them to perform tasks that come up.

While I can't say with any certainty there is no risk of someone having a pocket knife confiscated, from my actual experience and that of other posters, it doesn't appear to be a risk. One poster mentioned that a pocket knife (not sure how large) had to be checked with Guest Services and picked up upon exiting the park. All others who have actually gone to a park with a pocket knife, some multiple times and one as recently as this morning, have indicated they were allowed to bring them into the park. Each individual should weigh their need/desire to carry a pocket knife in the park with whatever risk they perceive in doing so.

OK, as long as we agree the only "risk" here is Disney security possibly over reacting to a pocket knife.

I bought the Leatherman CS a few years ago for backpacking. I really wanted a decent pair of scissors (for first aid needs and cutting open my home sealed dehydrated meals). This is hands down my favorite of the many multitools I own. And it folds down to the size of regular cigarette lighter. My plan for my 2017 WDW trip is to just take the first aid kit (with this included) from my backpack and move to my park bag as I really don't see this being a problem for DW security. the SD has a blade that's less than 2" long and not even 1cm wide. It would be pretty hard to threaten or injure someone with it.

Box cutters have a blade less than 2". Remember 9/11?
