Pocket Knife

Box cutters have a blade less than 2". Remember 9/11?

I guess you haven't seen what can be done with a pencil, a pen, or a knitting needle then. It's not really the actual implement being used; it's the threat that goes along with it. The flight crew and passengers would have probably acted the same no matter what was being used as a weapon. It was a case of past performance is not a guarantee of future results. They thought if they went along with the hijackers, then everything would have been fine. Did you know that you can bring scissors on a plane that are bigger than a box cutter blade? Scissors can be pretty dangerous too.

My uncle always carries a pocket knife. On two occasions over the past year, he forgot to take it out of his pocket. Both times, he was able to get in through security with no problems. He set off the metal detector, but they determined it must be his belt buckle. It wasn't until later in each day that he realized he had it folded in his hankerchief. Not that I would recommend taking one in on purpose (he usually remembers to take it out of his pocket), but people do get them in.
