PO Riverside

Great resort choice! I think that PO Riverside is the nicest of all Disney moderate resorts. Be sure to take a walk around the boardwalk area near the main lobby and check out the main pool as well. I would also recommend stopping at the PO French Quarter food court to pick up some Beignets for a late night snack after leaving the parks...

We LOVE  POR!!! My biggest surprise there was YeeHaw Bob playing in the lounge.... This is a must do for us! It is a family friendly show, and I mean show! You can probably check him out on YouTube. Also the boat to DTD is very convenient, and relaxing! There are also horse drawn carriage rides. Hmmmm, let me see....oh ya! The Pasta bar is fabulous! Enjoy! :thumbsup2

Welcome to the DIS! I just noticed a couple of really great threads about POR over on the "Resorts" board. You might check that out, too -- one thread had hundreds of posts!

One thing I really like at POR is their food court. They have great stuff, including a great rotisserie chicken meal (complete with mashed potatoes and gravy and a veggie!) and a build-your-own pasta bar. Really great options for dinner!

We've stayed at POR 3 times and love it, especially the newly themed rooms. If you're traveling with young kids, you can get free lifevests at the marina to use at the pool. We were able to keep them for the week. They also let kids of any age go down the water slide. My 3 year old loved going down the water slide (of course with the life vest and either dh or myself standing at the bottom). And Yehaa Bob was very entertaining, even for my 8 year old!

We love POR!!
you can go fishing (very inexpensive!!)
take the boat to DTD
walk over to POFQ
rent Surrey bikes, carriage rides, rent boats
listen to the live entertainment in the lounge area by the bar
campfire with smores at night
movie by the pool at night
fun playground, pool area

I'm going to miss staying there this next trip! We love POR! I love relaxing on the boat to DTD. I think it is such a great resort with a wonderful ambiance. I hope I don't miss that being at CBR this trip. It would have cost us $1000 more to stay in the Royal Rooms b/c that was what they had left for free dining, and it was just too tempting to save the money and stay elsewhere. I was able to turn it into an 11 day trip with the savings and may even add one more night making it 12 days. We shall see! Have fun, and soak up all that POR is b/c it has such a great feel to it.

Theres a campfire at night and movie by the pool? Is this every night? How do you find out about that? This is the first time I am reading about it!
Anyone know where the garden view royal rooms would be??

TIA :)

As mentioned YeeHaw Bob is a POR must. The DTD boat at night is great. We also like getting up early and walking over to POFQ and getting some biegnets (we get there at open). I also like the arcade here it is one of the larger resort arcades. Have fun POR is our fav resort we go there every trip but have not stayed there the past 3 trips.

We stayed at POR last year and are doing so again this summer.

There is a newsletter sheet published each week with all the times and locations of all the different events going on around the resort. It will tell you which movies are being shown, where and at what times, plus all the other details of what is going on elsewhere in the resort so that you can join in when you want and choose to be elsewhere for the things you don't want to join in with (like the pool party, which is quite loud)

The newsletters are put in your welcome pack, and I think I remember them also being in our room, plus on reception and chalked up on the announcement boards near the pool, bar and (I think) also by the foodcourt. Also any cast member or lifeguard can tell you where to go or where to find the info.

It is a lovely resort, wherever your room is there is lovely theming. Be sure to try a magic cookie bar from the foodcourt, it's only sold at POR! You will have a great vacation.

What's the magic cookie bar? I'm intrigued...

A magic cookie bar is a tray bake that is cut into large squares. It is made of a whole jumble of things, including chocolate chips, nuts, coconut, I think I remember oats, and held together by a butter/syrup mix. Then it has more chocolate drizzled over the top of it. It is only available at Port Orleans Riverside in Disneyworld (I believe, although it may pop up somewhere else in the parks?)

I tried it on our last trip and it was very, very, very sweet and very, very, very nutty! I did enjoy it but I only managed like a quarter of it, and I am very fond of sweet things! It hurt me to be beaten by it so quickly :rotfl:

If you like coconut, sweet things and nuts, give it a try, but buy one at a time you can eat some and then stow some away for later too.

Another Port Orleans exclusive sweet snack/dessert are the fresh-cooked beignets which are only sold in the food court of Port Orleans French Quarter. One night, get off the bus or boat at French Quarter, buy a box of beignets and then walk down the river path back to Riverside. You will get powdered sugar everywhere but it's a lovely walk (only about 10 mins max at a slow pace) with a tasty snack to keep you going!

If you try either of these treats, let us know what you think of them when you get back home :thumbsup2
