I have an advance PnS camera...canon sx10is or something along those lines. Anyways, when I lift the flash and try to take a picture (often) the little green box (excuse my poor lingo here, I am not camera genius) that is supposed to show up when trying to take the picture sometimes doesnt show up...or will take FOREVER. More often though, it just won't ever show up and it won't allow me to take a picture. By the time it shows up, whatever I wanted a picture of is non existant anymore. Is there something wrong with the camera?

Are the batteries weak or close to needing recharging?

Some brands of (non-rechargeable) batteries don't get along with some models of cameras (they'll work together for maybe a few dozen pictures). It's hard to predict although the instruction manual may give a hint of the kind of batteries to buy. The first sign of trouble is the flash ready indicator taking a really long time to come on.

Rechargeable batteries also gradually degenerate over time possibly reaching a condition where they may take a few hundred pictures with the flash menu set to off but only a few dozen pictures with the flash set to auto or on.

Thank you! I was wondering if maybe the batteries were dying...we have the rechargable ones so next time this happens I will see if the batteries are also low

It could be the batteries, but to me it sounds more like this is in low light and it is having trouble locking focus due to that. Even inside with lights on is considered low light. Is the AF assist light on and working?

Hmm that is a good question... I had turned it off for something once but I thought I turned it back on... maybe I didn't. I will have to look after I finish what I am doing right now.
